The One about Japanese Food Trucks: Kome Shiruna

When it comes to food trucks in Japan, there are food trucks (or kitchen cars) that are considered “top-tier”. Granted, food is subjective to an individual but when it comes to pork loving fans, Kome Shiruna serves top-tier food thanks to Moriyama-san.

The name “Kome Shiruna” is derived from the tool that is used as a leader.

With a slogan of “Japanese food” where you can easily enjoy the natural flavor and nutrition that will soothe your body and soul”.  This is no doubt true.

In fact, Kome Shiruna serves an Omusubi-set that is absolutely divine!

It comes with a smoked egg, pork roast and grilled brown rice ball. It’s probably one of the best things you will try in Japan and it won’t set you back (costs Y780).

If you just want straight-up pork, there is their Pork (three types) set for Y1000 and this is includes the leg (momo), shoulder and bacon.

What’s intersting is that the chef uses a mini hakama in which scorched wood creates the aroma, which you can see on their Facebook.  So, what Moriyama-san does is roast the pork for 2-3 hours under cherry wood, creating a super moist and flavorful pork.

Rarely do you see a van with a chimney on top of it, but that’s one of the things to expect from Kome Shiruna.  Also, what one can expect is something healthy and produce that is pesticide-free, additive-free and naturally free-range eggs.

And if you want more, you can get the grilled brown rice ball for Y180, if you don’t want a ball, he also cooks the brown rice in a special oven as well.  He also offers Koji Milk, but they tend to be out of stock on it, as it sells quickly.  Vegetarian?  No problem, he makes a Vegetable Soup that is delicious at Y290 for half and regular cup for Y480.   He also sells a shoulder skin and vegetables (salad) (which also sells quickly).  The charcoal grilled boiled egg is Y220 (rice not included).

And if you want more pork, no problem… Momo (leg) is 670Y for 100g, shoulder loin is Y790 for 100g, bacon for Y850 for 100g and Top Loin for Y950 for Y100g.

I had to check back to see that Kome Shiruna survived the pandemic and I know it was a difficult time for Moriyama-san, but his business continues and that’s very good!

So, please go out and support Moriyama-san’s “Kome Shiruna”.  You won’t be disappointed. In fact, you may consider this food truck to serve one of the best cuts of pork ala comfort food in Tokyo!

Check out the Farmer’s Market in Shibuya at United Nations University during the weekends, you will find Kome Shiruna there.
