The One about Emilio Greco’s “Eiko” bronze sculpture (1968)

When I was at the Matsuoka Museum of Art in Tokyo, I had the opportunity to see Emilio Greco’s bronze sculpture titled “Eiko” (1968).

Greco is an Italian sculptor, engraver, medalist, writer and poet and has created well-known monumental bronze sculptures located in museums all over the world.

Possibly one of the more unique sculptures is located in Japan titled “Laura” (1973) at the Hiroshima Museum of Art. But possibly, the one he is best known for is his “Monument to Pinocchio” (1953) at Collodi, the monumental doors for Orvieto Cathedral (1962-1964) and Nereid (Crouching Figure no. 4, 1973).

But he also has a bronze sculpture (brown patina) created in 1968 titled “Eiko” in Japan, at the Matsuoka Museum of Art in Tokyo.

His etchings for Eiko can be found for sale but what’s interesting is that one can find another Eiko at the Emilo Greco Museum in the city of Sabaudia in Italy.

Greco died in Rome on April 4, 1995 and is buried in a cemetery in Sabaudia.
