The One about the “Tomica Town: 7-Eleven Set” (2022)

In 2022, Takara Tomy’s Tomica line featured a new concept for its Tomica Town sets.

In the past, the focus was a diorama with a playable character and one can easily remove parts and place them together in pre-set holes within the set. But in 2022, the sets changed in which the concept was no assembly, no applying labels and easy to clean and store.

Quite simply, the sets automatically fold up. And for the Tomica Town 7-Eleven set, you get a foldable 7-Eleven Set along with an Isuzu Elf Tomica.

For the most part, the vintage version (from Tomy) came with a plarail person and you had sidewalks and entry to the convenience store and an open door through the back, a stop light and it was great for those who wanted to incorporate diorama based scenery.

Then the second iteration gave a more playable look as you can place things on pre-arranged holes on the set and all sets during that time would incorporate a higher level with ramps available.

But while the first vintage set looked great for its playability, the 2022 “Tomica Town: 7-Eleven Set” (2022)is probably a set that was made to scale, but works with current tracks and while it doesn’t come with a pla kid, it does come with an Isuzu Elf.

Now I’m a bit torn about this set. I like the original vintage version because it was like a real shop with the plastic glass doors, while the new sets have sticker illustrations.

But I do know what they were trying to accomplish with this set and that was to avoid clutter. So, in that sense, for parents with children, that is a major plus. But I think what makes it a bit worth it is the addition of a Tomica vehicle.

You get an Isuzu Elf and for those who collect Tomica know that Isuzu Elf’s are one of the most popular vehicles in the Tomica collection.

I added a 1/64 figurine to see if it’s scale.  It’s a bit too tall when it comes to size comparison of the figurine to the convenience store sliding door.  But the scale works perfectly with the Isuzu Elf.

As you can see the year 2007, many tomica tend to use the 2007 mold of the Isuzu Elf and a trailer with the rear that opens and closes.

The front portion of the Isuzu Elf looks very good but a bit basic with the painted lights but I do like the detail of the grill and that it has Isuzu Elf printed on the front.  Tinted windows were a treat to see but I wish they used an Isuzu Elf with the better 7-Eleven design.

7-Eleven Isuzu Elf

Tomica has released a 7-Eleven Isuzu Elf for the Tomica Limited Vintage Neo line but because that was for Neo (the pricier premium version of Tomica), so they had to come up with a different alternative.

They opted for the most generic 7-Eleven Isuzu Elf delivery truck, so what you see included in this set is accurate but it happens to be one of the most basic.

But still, you get a Tomica vehicle which other sets don’t include, so that’s a plus.

Overall, The Tomica Town 7-Eleven Set is consistent with the 2022-2023 releases of fold up and go. No clutter, nothing is removed, everything is easy to pack up which in itself is great for parents who want their children to be organized. And possibility of resale for used makes it even more enticing, because no worries of lost parts.

And the inclusion of an Isuzu Elf, makes this set even more enticing.

The Tomica Town: 7-Eleven Set is highly recommended!
