The One about the Tomica Premium 11 – Nissan Skyline GT-R V-SPEC II Nur

When it comes to affordable, quality die-cast metal cars from Japan, Tomica Premium, is a series that are definitely attractive to collectors.

While maybe not as expensive or high quality like it’s predecessor, Tomica Limited (2001-2013) which were realistic and more display-only models, one shouldn’t discount this line of cars which began in 2015.

Featuring a newly manufactured mold for exclusive use, while Tomica Unlimited uses the same ABS resin as the regular Tomica vehicles, the quality is a step-up from regular Tomica vehicles.

Tomica Premium features mainly older car models and models that were commercialized by Tomica in the past and the series is released quarterly.

And similar to the regular model where there may be the regular and a first edition, Tomica Premium releases may have a car variation that instead of featuring the red box, it comes with a red box.

Today, I am reviewing the the Tomica Premium 11 – Nissan Skyline GT-R V-SPEC II Nur.

For those not familiar with the Nissan Skyline GT-R (the GT-R which stands for “Gran Turismo-Racing”), the sports car was produced between 1969-1972 in Japan and was revived in 1989.

A winner of many Touring Car Championships, The Nissan Skyline is one of the most iconic Japanese sports cars and is Nissan’s flagship sports model.

And to celebrate the success of the GTR in Group N and Group A racing, Nissan introduced the Skyline GT-R V-Spec (which stands for “Victory SPECification”) in 1993 and on February 1994, Nissan introduced the Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (the difference is the second featured wider 245/45R17 tires).

Fastforward nearly a decade later and Nissan introduced the Skyline GT-R V-Spec II Nur (named after the famous German Nurburgring racetrack), the final production model for the R-34 GT-R.   Only 718 V-Spec II Nur vehicles were produced and featured larger turbochargers, increased boost, steel blades and were to have 246 kW (334PS; 330 HP).

In 2021, a 10-km R34 Skyline GT-R V-Spec II Nur sold for $549,000 online via Japanese company Bingo Auctions, becoming the most that a Skyline sold at an auction.  It’s important to note that these vehicles must reach the 25-year threshold to become legal to register in the United States and wealthy people all over the world wants to own one.

Of course, this car is way too much of what I can afford, but what I can afford is a the Tomica Premium 11 – Nissan Skyline GT-R V-SPEC II Nur!

Immediately, the car is visually striking thanks to its metallic blue paint finish.  You have to love the Skyline GT-R logo on the license plate area and the Nissan logo.  Love those rims and yes, it comes with driver/passenger door opening a gimmick!

I absolutely love the fact that you get headlights that are not painted on, tail lights, glad to see the inner lights have a different shade of red.

The rims are nicely painted and I don’t see any badly painted edges.

For the most part, the overall painting and the overall production of the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-SPEC II Nur is awesome and you can see why it’s part of the Tomica Premium line.  It’s a very cool looking car!

The Tomica Premium 11 – Nissan Skyline GT-R V-SPEC II Nur also has a suspension and because of the beautiful paint finish, one thing I do remind people is to clean the car from oils from your finger by using a microfiber cloth (especially if you have extra ones that are used for eye glass cleaning) in order to maintain the health of the die-cast metal car and its paint.  Keep in room temperature, not in a bin in the garage during a hot summer.

But it’s a very cool Tomica Premium car worth owning and I definitely recommend it!
