The One about Dovetail Games Train Simulator Classic – How I fixed The OUT OF MEMORY bug (Exception Code: 0xC0000005)

For those who get the OUT OF MEMORY bug (Exception Code: 0xC0000005), I want to help those who have had this issue fix it!

This past weekend, I encountered the following issue and I went through hours of troubleshooting and nothing was working until I decided to try one thing and it worked!

While each person may have a different reason why this issue was happening, most likely it was caused by subscribing to a WORKSHOP which allows for created scenarios and builds for people to enjoy the game and DLC even further.  The simple fix for many is to remove and unsubscribe to those WORKSHOPS.

You can go to your Steam Library, right click on Train Simulator Classic and go to properties and you can unsubscribe from the workshops.  For many people, this will work.  Unfortunately for me, I noticed that after doing so, my game started generating the error.

Restarted the game, restarted my computer, problem still happened.

I then went to:

C:\STEAM\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Content

And renamed the SDBCache.bin files (two) and the RVDB Cache files (two)…didn’t fix the issue. I even tried deleting the files….this didn’t fix the issue.

I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it…. Problem continued.  Tried 32-bit and 64-bit, nada.

I then went through going through my NVidia graphic settings, configured page memory allocation settings, went to regedit to fix things, turned Gaming Mode Off and still the problem persisted.

I then removed all DLC (which I have 128GB worth) and the problem still happened.

And thus, the next step was my last resort and sure enough, it fixed the issue.

I went to:

C:\STEAM\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Content

and DELETED the Routes folder and sure enough it worked!

So, somehow there was some corruption that happened which prevented the game from working correctly.  Not sure if the Workshops affected it or one of the DLC’s I purchased affected it. But everything is now working.

The good news is that STEAM saves your backups to the cloud, so no loss of your gameplay which is a major plus!!!

The only bad news is that you may need to reinstall the DLC and yes, if you have a lot, it may take awhile. But if you high speed Internet, it shouldn’t take long (128GB and it took me a little over a half hour).

But other than that, this fixed the OUT OF MEMORY issue which I experienced.  I hope this helps others as well!
