The One about the Insputer 170GPH Aquarium Filter with Surface Skimmer

My big brand filter has gone kaput and I figured I wanted to try something different this time around.

So, I decided to try the Insputer 170GPH Aquarium Filter with Surface Skimmer and it’s really easy to use and pretty much once you add the attachments, it’s ready to go.

So, what is this filter about?

Well it’s a fish tank filter with a filter sponge and two activated charcoal filter plates to remove odor and feces. It also has a surface skimmer to clean the surface oil sludge to clean the water.

On top there is an adjustable flow that is easy to operate but I do have some positives and negatives about this filter.

I am using this on a 50 gallon (this is for a 30-45 but this is being used as my second external filter).

It works very well and good flow of water coming out. But here’s the thing, you will need to clean this often. Within five days of using it, water was coming out of the top. Fortunately, the way it’s designed, the water comes out of the top front and doesn’t overfill and water leaking behind your fish tank (which I have experienced this testing with other filters before).

As mentioned, the filter needs to be cleaned out often, more so for the front sponges that are on the top front. They are small but they collect a lot of the gunk. I do like it, and it does work. But just know, you are going to have to clean the filter each week as part of your weekly maintenance (of course, subjective to tank size and how much fish you have).

As for the noise level, it’s NOT that loud. I have had filters that were much louder, big brand and no brand, and the only thing you hear is just the water dripping to the surface which is to be expected. If you don’t want filter sounds, then get yourself a pump and an internal sponge filter.

You really can’t complain about this filter. It’s inexpensive and it performs just as well as my more expensive brand filter, and even more quiet and hopefully the impeller lasts a long time.

But I have no complaints. It works as intended, you get several attachments and it does the job! Just know in advance, if you perform weekly maintenance, you will have to clean this out, and the good thing, you can just pull the whole unit off and then remove the sponges and clean them.  Nothing to take apart.

The Insputer 170GPH Aquarium Filter with Surface Skimmer is recommended!
