Today I am reviewing the ANCEL V6 PRO+ Bidirectional Scan Tool, Enhanced BT Bluetooth Automotive OBD2 Diagnostic Code Reader All System Car Scanner.
First, I have to say that I have reviewed numerous car scanners before and I am familiar with Ancel products.
What I’m not familiar with is trying their top unit out, which is the ANCEL V6 PRO+ Bidirectional Scan Tool, which is sold for nearly $650.
I know Ancel has some heavy duty scanners under $500 but this is the first that I’ve come across at $650 and had to test for myself of what it does.
So, what you get pretty much is the scanner which is a tablet running on Android 10.0. As of November 2022, the latest Android at this time is Android 13, but Android 10 is a 2019 OS that was fully utilized by a lot of electronics in 2020 and was a major update at the time.
The 32GB ANCEL V6 PRO + OBD2 scanner is a tablet features the Ancel software but hitting home and an upside sliding with your fingers will take it to an area where you can access files, browser, clock, photo gallery, calendar, calculator, sound recorder and it also has TeamViewer Quick Support (in case you need remote support from Ancel) installed. There is no Google Playstore app, but this is a professional device for vehicles and not meant game apps. Granted, you can view videos and do the things you normally would with a browser.
The screen is HD Touchscreen and it comes equipped with a 8000mAh lithium battery, so it is rechargeable. It does support wifi.
I like how it has these protective rubber protecting the edges, just in case you drop it. I liked the raised rubber edges on the side adding further protection.
Upon receiving the unit, I made sure to run the updates with the unit connected to my Internet. The unit does come pre-charged but definitely run the updates necessary first (it’s important to note that you get two years of updates).
The device also comes with a Bluetooth VCI dongle. It comes with the usual cables to hook up to your car, meanwhile, you can connect the provided USB cable to the unit and it automatically picks up the signals.
I liked how I was able to request information form the vehicle and how you can send commands to a vehicle’s modules. That is a plus.
It does have 15 Hot Reset functions for most vehicles, so you can do oil resets, ABS bleeding, TPMS/EPB/SAS reset, battery registration, DPF regen, injector Coding, key programming (so you can disable lost keys or add new keys) and more.
It also can communicate with the vehicle to search the VIN # and the Ancel says that it works with 100+ car manufacturers and 99% vehicle models. You can diagnose AABS, SRS,m Engline, Transmission, TPMS, Brake System, Suspension System, BODY and more. So you can do your own troubleshooting.
In addition, you can easily do screen captures and it does come with a one click screen recorder.
It’s easy to see why this is a more expensive unit. You’re literally getting an android tablet, but with the ANCEL software that really gives you a full diagnoses for most vehicles (it covers American, European, Asian, Chinese and Australian vehicles).
The device also features language support such as English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Dutch.
It’s very easy to use and it’s very easy to charge via a USB Type-C cable. It also comes with a plug/charge cable. And let’s not forget the plastic carrying case.
But the only thing I was trying to get more information is on the free two year update. What happens after two years? I was trying to look on the website, but I guess you can contact customer support and they will e-mail you information on service updates (or costs) after the second year is up.
But this is a very awesome car reader and you get what you pay for. You are getting the HD tablet, the Bluetooth VCI dongle. plus the software service and while $650 is the price, purchasing through Amazon, you get a coupon for $150 off via the current extra savings promotional coupon. So, you can literally bring that cost down to $500.
