The One about my June Dividend Stock Purchases (2021)

I’m glad to have received positive comments of last month’s monthly dividend stock purchases. And for the month of June, I think I invested a lot more than I would usually invest per month.  So, please don’t expect July or other months to be similar.

While I am diversified to reduce price volatility and risk, my personal stock portfolio is over diversified in a few sectors.

I am full aware that owning more stocks can take away the impact of large stock gains and limit my upside, but my strategy is to focus on 1-3 stocks for compounding for each sector but also to see how things do if we do experience inflation or another stay-at-home due to the Delta variant which is accounting to 1/4 of cases in the US.   Each week that passes, it seems that there is more uncertainty.   I have no problem trimming my positions, but I have no problems holding onto a stock long term.

For the month of June, I took part in the following dividend and growth stocks and ETFs.

Communications Sector

Continuing to compound on T and VZ.  Yes, I am aware of T’s merger next year, but it may become something better than what is expected. Granted, it wasn’t good news for those who heavily invested in T but I’m not heavily invested as others, so I’m willing to hold on to T and see what it will develop into.  The FCOM ETF was added due to my weakness in the sector.

Consumer Discretionary Sector

My purchase of a share of General Motors without a dividend is mainly to see how the company does, growth wise as they are considered #2 in the EV space, next to Tesla.  We’ll see.  But as for whittling things down to my primary two, I’m struggling as I invested in these companies because I do like them and have continued to invest in them.  But we’ll see.

When it comes to this sector, I absolutely like the Consumer Staples Sector and there is one other I have that I didn’t buy in June and that’s Pepsi which is at $148.17, 2.93% annual yield and a $4.30 dividend.  I like the fact that the Consumer Staples sector is not too expensive and a good number in my portfolio are Dividend Kings.

Financials Sector

I tend to invest heavy in financials, second to REITs.  There are the traditional banks which I will invest in, insurance companies which I will invest in and of course, BDC’s (Business Development Companies).  I do like the sector and I keep re-examining my investment in various companies.  There are high yield companies with great dividend payouts, but I’m always cautious that things can flip upside down.  So, I’m always keeping my eye on this sector.

Healthcare Sector

I didn’t add any JNJ this month and to be truthful, the only ones that I have been interested in is Abbvie Inc., Bristol-Meyers Squibb Co. and GlaxoSmithKline PLC.  But I’m still trying to figure out my primary 2 or 3 of what stocks I want to stay long on.

Industrials Sector

One of the things about the Industrials Sector is that investing in a good company, you’re going to pay a bit more for shares that produce solid dividends.  But I recently discovered Greif Inc., with a 4.50% yield and $2.64 dividend income per share.  And it’s not that expensive.  And there is iCahn Enterprises LP with an $8.00 annual dividend, $2.00 quarterly and also not as expensive.  But it has a crazy high yield but yet were able to make their dividend payments.  So, we’ll see how this goes!

Utilities Sector

Right now I’m taking a look at clean energy stocks and big players in renewable energy.  But also water, as I believe water companies, especially waste water, will become important.  In terms of dividends, I definitely like Duke Energy Corp, Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure but also Nextera!

ANKR Ankr 354 $27.97
AMP AMP 412.37 $24.00

So, my goal was to max out my Roth IRA for 2021 this month, which I did.  Compound on stocks I have in all eleven sectors.  This is no doubt a rare month in which I would invest this much.  But this will makeup for the next upcoming few months which will be a bit slim, as I have to divert income to prepare for taxes and to also want to work in building my index fund portfolio.

I know some may wonder, for those stocks that I probably won’t compound, will I sell them or keep them.  Will, I’ll find out after a year of holding them.  I’m in no real rush to sell, unless I’m desperate.  But if anything, I want to see how things go, if we face something crazy in the market or the Delta variant spins out of control.  A lot of cyclicals this month, but I also went heavy on BDCs and REITs.

I invested in a total of 885 shares for $13,624.71 for June 2021 in stocks, majority are all dividend paying stocks.  I invested in total of 39 units in ETFs for $1,119.63 this month and a total of 3 units in bond ETFs for $88.09.

I invested in 32 unit shares for my index funds for $444.31.  And a total of $117.72 in cryptocurrency.

So, a total of $15394.46 was invested in June 2021 which added around $921 extra towards my annual dividend income.

Now, I’m sure that a few may say, why not just invest in 2,625 shares of ORC (using today’s closing price of $5.19 per share for $.78 annually with a 14.91% yield) and for $13,623.75, I can earn $170.62 per month and earn $2,047.50 annually on dividends.

Sure, that would be nice and I know many people solely investing in ORC are making their $1,000 dividend per month (about $85,000 invested).  But then I would not be diversified in all sectors, nor would I be prepared for market volatility (and I know there are people who could care less about being diversified and want to earn passive income now).

But if that’s your focus for your portfolio, then all power to you.  I would love to make a thousand on dividends per month as quickly as possible but I want to do it while investing in various stocks for each sector and various ETFs. It’ll take me longer to get there, doing it this way and depending on how much money I do invest, but I’m not interested in putting my money all into one stock.

So, this was my June 2021 dividend stock investment + investments in ETFs, Index Funds and Cryptocurrency.

Again, It is recommended that you should always consider visiting a financial advisor for independent financial advice before making investment decisions.
