The One about the Fluval Bug Bites – Goldfish Formula Flakes

I have reviewed numerous Fluval products before, especially the Fluval Bug Bites which I have used for my various fish and invertebrate.

This time around, I am reviewing the Fluval Bug Bites – Goldfish Formula Flakes.

According to Fluval:

Fluval Bug Bites is a complete fish food that features a unique insect-based formulation, enriched with multiple quality proteins and carbohydrates that are ideal for goldfish. High in fiber, this formula ensures food intake is properly processed through the intestinal tract, supporting a healthier gut and overall wellness for this cold-water species.

Insects are hunted by fish in the wild as they offer a widely available food source. The instinctive feeding habit is the foundation behind Bug Bites, which are formulated with nutrient-rich insect larvae and enriched with multiple quality proteins, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

Most freshwater fish are omnivores and regularly feed on insects in the wild. However, not all insects are created equally when it comes to a fish’s diet.

Bug Bites are formulated with sustainably harvested Black Soldier Fly Larvae (#1 ingredient across all formulas), which are raised on fruits and vegetables for exceptional “super food” nutrition. Using a unique cultivation process, BSFL are grown under controlled conditions for total sustainability that preserves natural environments. Under controlled conditions, Black Soldier Flies produce larvae, which naturally feed on decaying organic matter. Unconsumed fruits and vegetables are used as larvae feed.

The larvae consume the feed, converting the nutrients into protein and healthy fat. After a 2-week feeding cycle, the larvae are harvested and dried.

The dried larvae are mixed with other high-quality proteins, vitamins, minerals and trace elements to offer a complete and balanced daily diet. In addition to BSFL, Bug Bites offer other excellent protein sources such as Herring & Shrimp Meal, which are also rich in Omega-3 for healthy skin, scales, fins and colors. Unlike big brand fish foods, Bug Bites are always prepared in small batches for superior control and quality assurance.

The proximity of our ingredients (most of which are delivered right before production) also offers maximum freshness, which translates into better palatability.

For the most part, the primary thing to remember about Fluval Bug Bites is that the fish food uses insect larvae.

Black Soldier Fly Larvae is often used to convert waste into animal feed and the Fluval Bug Bites contains up to 40% nutrient rich Black Soldier Fly Larvae.

And the flakes are high in proteins and rich in Omega 3 and 6, as well as filled with vitamins such as A, D3, E and C.

Of the Fluval Bug Bites, this one is the most pricier at under $7 (others are under $4). But still, that’s still inexpensive when compared to other competitors which are a little more.

For this one, it offers a fiber rich, color enhancing diet and I actually use the flakes for the second feeding later in the evening, as opposed to goldfish pellets which I do in the morning.

I don’t overfeed my goldfish, which primarily Oranda’s, Ryukin and Black Moors.  But for the most part, they do like these flakes.

AT under $7, the Fluval Bug Bites – Goldfish Formula Flakes is recommended, but it’s a bit higher in priced compared to other Fluval Bug Bites offered on Amazon.
