When it comes to Japan, the words “Harajuku Kawaii” describes the cutesy fashion of Harajuku.
And Masuda Sebastian is known for promoting the Kawaii concept worldwide, may it be fashion, music and lifestyle.
Along with Masuda, others who have promoted Kawaii culture is pop artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, models Seto Ayumi, Una, Kimura Misa, Yura, Sato Saki, Eva and many others.
And in 2015, Kawaii Monster Cafe Harajuku opened its doors. The cafe is produced by Masuda Sebastian and certain days offer different themes.
While during the day, families and children can come and be entertained, around 7:30 p.m., the cafe kicks off a major theme, which you have to reserve tickets for.
It’s important to note that while the location offers food and drinks for purchase, similar to themed restaurants, the theme is the focus rather than the food and drinks. And depending on the night, there are themed foods on sale.
Tuesday nights features a Japanese oiran show (it’s important to note that geisha and oiran are different. Geisha are professional entertainers and hostesses since the 16th century and Oiran existed in the Yoshiwara of Edo as high class prostitutes/Yujo).
On Wednesday nights, it’s Tokyo Pop Culture Night.
On Thursday nights starting at 8:00 p.m., it’s the Kawaii Monster Cafe Harajuku Burlesque Show which is more adult themed. Stripping and pole dancing, no nudity.
On Friday night it’s “TOKYO Under Land in Harajuku” featuring Japanese drag queen shows and pole dance shows and also for adults.
I went on a Thursday night for “Tokyo Burlesque Night” and I noticed that an hour before opening, many families with their young kids showed up expecting a family wholesome performance and not knowing it was an adult performance.
I got a very awesome deal at the time through Voyagin and the company still offers discounts to their show. You can purchase a ticket just to see the show or ticket plus all you can drink and you can eat a meal.
One of the things I noticed is that people didn’t know there are different shows through the night, some people thought it was a half hour show and took off right after. Expect to be entertained throughout the night.
In tomorrow’s post, I will discuss “Burlesque Night” at KAWAII MONSTER CAFE HARAJUKU!
