The One about the FFXTW 2PCS Black Aquarium Wave Maker

The last time I tested the FFXTW Aquarium Wave Maker, it was to test to find out how it would work on aquariums under 50 gallons and I determined that the wavemaker worked extremely well but it was way too powerful for anything under 55 gallons.

So, what if you have a 20 or 36 or 55 gallon tank and want a wave maker?

This leads me to the FFXTW 2PCS Black Aquarium Wave Maker.

The only thing is that FFXTW doesn’t list the GPH which would help people determine if it’s for them or not. But since they don’t, I’ll go ahead and give you the lowdown.

A wave maker produces waves similar to the ocean and also stimulates the water to be circulated in the aquarium which helps to provide oxygen to the fish (so you don’t need a pump).

It’s definitely beneficial for marine aquariums as the circulation helps prevent poisonous substances to grow also helps deliver food to coral and other invertebrates.

The FFXTW 2PCS Black Aquarium Wave Maker is a set designed for 20 gallons or more.  Actually I think it would be safe to say 36 gallons or more but I do feel one of these would work for a 20 gallon with a bigger fish.

The set comes with the wave maker and the suction cup connectors for both.  Again, these are submersible, so don’t worry that the plug is going in the water, you won’t be shocked.  Just keep the plug dry and farther away from the outlet and you are good.

These Wave Makers don’t have a knob to control flow, it’s one speed, no switch, just put it in your aquarium, down below, aim it up (or else your substrate may be blown, especially for sand lovers).

And that’s it!  It’s easy to use and it’s way less powerful than their single units which are for larger aquariums.

What about for smaller fish?  Why do I say bigger fish?  While it would give your fish a workout, it’s way too much of a workout and may stress them out.  I tested this with smaller fish to see how they react and the smaller fish avoided it.  They went towards the front of the aquarium to avoid the current.

So, the bigger the aquarium, the better chance they can find a place where they can avoid the current, where larger fish, they won’t care and would like the current.  Again, there is no control of flow, so while it’s the least powerful of the FFXTW fans, it still generates a good amount of current for tanks under 55 gallons, especially if you plan to use both.  My feeling, 36 to 55 gallons, you can use both, you maybe even want to use one. 20 gallons, you may be content with one.

I think these would also work great for those who have outdoor breeding tanks.

As for 10 gallon aquarium owners, stick with your air stone with a dual outlet pump (better with a pump that can adjust the amount of bubbles).

But that’s my honest opinion and at under $14, it’s no doubt attractive at that price.  Again, there is no control of the flow, but it won’t hurt the wallet, especially if you want to test it out.

The FFXTW 2PCS Black Aquarium Wave Maker is worth giving a try!
