The One about Kenneth Fredrickson’s “Wine: A Beginner’s Guide”

When it comes to wine, I don’t know much at all about it.  And I was looking for a book that goes into details that beginner’s like myself can understand.

And I decided to give “Wine: A Beginner’s Guide” by Master Sommelier Ken Fredrickson was what I have been looking for.

The book is broken down in the following chapters:

– CHAPTER ONE: Wine
– CHAPTER TWO: Wine Builds Character
– CHAPTER THREE: Style and Substance
– CHAPTER FOUR: How to Taste Wine
– CHAPTER FIVE: Handle Wine Like a Sommelier
– CHAPTER SIX: Wine Around the World
– CHAPTER SEVEN: Pairing Wine with Food

I learned about the different types of wines, how to taste wine, the different types of wine glasses (and also different bottles).

I actually had purchased wine glasses and looking at the book, the ones I bought are for White Burgundy, I thought it was for Bordeaux but learned that the Bordeaux glass has a much longer stem. Had no idea, why white wine glasses were smaller and this book goes into that. And how taller red wine glasses is important for the interaction of the wine and oxygen.

And you learn about wine all over the world and the pairing of wine food and this was a chapter that intrigued me because I always wondered the importance of pairing certain wine with poultry or eating fish, etc.

Overall, I found “Wine: A Beginner’s Guide” by Master Sommelier Ken Fredrickson to be informative. And for a beginner like myself, I learned a lot from this book. While I’m not an erudite on wine or what makes a great beginner’s wine guide, for what I have been curious about, I’m glad this book touches upon that.

“Wine: A Beginner’s Guide” by Master Sommelier Ken Fredrickson is recommended!
