The One about Nature’s Edge Selenium Supplement (100 mcg)

Before I review this, I want to emphasize that I am not a dietician, nor am I a doctor.  I highly recommend visiting your doctor before trying any vitamin supplement for short-term or long-term.

A vitamin supplement I have been trying out is Nature’s Edge Selenium Supplement.

Selenium is an essential mineral found through food and acts as a powerful antioxidant.  Antioxidants prevent cell damage caused by free radicals.

I’ve read that Selenium has the ability to reduce DNA damage and oxidative stress, boost your immune system and destroy cancer cells.  And one article suggested that it may help people undergoing radiation therapy.

Another is that it may help in protecting against heart disease and mental decline.  From what I’ve read, those who have Alzheimer’s Disease and Heart Disease had low levels of Selenium.

And that Selenium is important for the proper functioning of your thyroid gland.

And also boost the immune system and reduce asthma symptoms.

Selenium is found in Oysters, Brazil Nuts, Halibut, Yellowfin Tuna and many other foods.

With that being said, a lot of the foods (aside from chicken breast which only has 12% compared to oysters which have 238%), I know I don’t get a good intake of selenium in my diet.

So, I started to incorporate Selenium supplements every other day.  Bare in mind, I do blood tests every six months and consult with my doctor to see my vitamin levels and to see if it’s affecting my body.  My doctor tells me to take my multi-day everyday, but specific vitamins every other day.  So, I follow his lead and do my blood tests.

In the US, the recommended amount is 55 mcg per day and one should not exceed the limit of 400 mcg per day.

These vitamin supplements have 100 mcg.  According to healthline, toxicity is more likely to happen from taking supplements rather than eating selenium-containing foods.

Overall, I have had no adverse reactions from taking Nature’s Edge Selenium (every other day) but I highly recommend doing your research on Selenium before taking it.
