The One about Shirokuma Cafe (Polar Bear’s Cafe) in Takadanobaba Part 2
Back in 2006, mangaka Higa Aloha created “Shirokuma Cafe” (Polar Bear’s Cafe).
The manga series would last from 2006-2013, while an anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot aired in Japan around April 2012-March 2013.
The series revolved around a polar bear who run’s Shirokuma Cafe which serves organic foods and drinks popular among humans and animals.
Among those who frequent the cafe is the lazy but kind Panda (who loves the iced coffee), Penguin (a fan of the cafe mocha) and the human girl, Sasako who works at the cafe.
There are many more animal characters that are featured but what is quite interesting is that in Takadanobaba (located in Shinjuku prefecture) is a Shirokuma Cafe.
Unlike other anime/manga series which gets a cafe but temporary (typically a few weeks or a month), Shirokuma Cafe has been a fixture of Takadanobaba, bringing in visitors from all over the world for years.
It’s also a place that I have visited to get my sweets fix (yes, I know, I shouldn’t be eating anything sugary, but I just had to splurge for a little).
For part 1, let’s take a look at what you see when you walk through the door of Shirokuma Cafe. You are treated with the characters and also merchandise from the series.
With a lot of merchandise available at the cafe, now it’s time to grab something I look forward to having each time! And I’ll discuss that in part two of my coverage of Shirokuma Cafe.
