The One about the Kyoto Animation Victims

Anime.  It brings people together.  It brings enjoyment and entertainment to millions of people worldwide.

And so when the tragic news of the Kyoto Animation arson started appearing on the news and social media, millions of us were saddened.

At the time I checked, I felt there was a lot of hope that many people were able to be rescued and have escaped. I slept wishing for a positive outcome.

When I woke up and checked the news, it was not the news that I expected to read.  I was shocked that there were 33 employees dead and 36 more employees injured.

Like everyone else, I was saddened and angry and have continually checked the news in Japan of why the suspect did what he did.

It saddens me greatly because as an anime fan but also one who has worked with the industry, may it be to help behind-the-scenes in bringing anime over to the United States, working with animation companies in Japan to hopefully promote their product in hopes of licensing or even interviewing those in the anime industry, I always have respect for them.

I have made great friends in the animation industry and for many years, you learn about the love of their work but also the hardships.

These talented and creative people are working in an industry that is not easy.

They have intense deadlines, work long hours, they don’t get paid a lot, nor do they get the best benefits but they do it for the love of anime and their art.  And also the benefit of knowing many people, especially all over the world are appreciating their hard work.

Kyoto Animation was one of the companies in the forefront of breaking new ground on the treatment and respect given to their employees ( You can read an excellent article in the Hollywood Reporter about this).

The company employed 70 staff members and to think many of them are no longer able to work, no longer able to see their families, no longer able to live life and create more experiences is heartbreaking.

Many people were injured badly and now having to prepare for a new life of rehabilitation and also not doing what they love is heartbreaking.

But I do believe that Kyoto Animation will return and create anime that people will enjoy, love and be entertained.  But right now, those victims need our help, our support and prayers.

My prayers go out to Kyoto Animation, the victims and their families and friends.
