The One about Edo Wonderland in Nikko – Part 3 – Entering Edo Wonderland

Once you arrive to Edo Wonderland, you will go through a row of trees and certain areas that showcase what people used during the Edo Period.  As you go through the path, you then discover a village with mountains around it.  This village is Edo Wonderland.

The first thing you may ask yourself is “where do I go?”.  That’s the thing about Edo Wonderland is that for each building area, inside is a museum, restaurant, workshop and bigger buildings tend to be theaters, attractions and more.

And at first, it may look small, but the more you explore, you realize the location has so much to offer.

For the most part, you go at your own leisure and it’s important to know that if you see a live house, there are times posted, but it’s in Japanese.

For the most part, everything is in Japanese at Edo Wonderland, except the brochure guide that you get (which is available in several languages) and a few signs.  Even the live shows, but you don’t have to understand Japanese as the plot is quite understandable.

You’ll see many people in traditional Japanese clothing, as one would wear in the Edo Period.  Some are regular attendees who rented outfits to wear but many who work as staff at Edo Wonderland.

It’s important to note that many are actors, so don’t be weirded out if they are in character (it’s part of their job). Some who are taking care of the animals, are maintenance people, restaurant or store staff, they all have to dress up in Edo Period attire.

You’ll see some who walk around like they are part of the police, some who give people a ride (as they did way back then).  But it’s part of the allure of Edo Wonderland.  As I mentioned before, it’s like being transported back in time.  It’s pretty surreal.

There is so much to discuss about Edo Wonderland and in tomorrow’s post, I’ll show you a few of the attractions one can see at this wonderful theme park!
