The One about MAISONdes feat. yama, Nakimushi – Hello/Hello (2021)

As I took a sip of my coffee, I sat and listened to MAISON des feat. yama, Nakimushi’s “Hello/Hello”.

First, let me first explain what MAISONdes is and it’s not a band but it’s a Japanese music project. All we know is that the main

The concept is to imagine a large apartment building and each room is about six-and-a-half tatami mats long (in other words, it’s a small space). And for each apartment room is a person who lives in the space and the songs reflect the person’s feelings or thoughts. Each inhabitant of this apartment space have their own stories to tell and their own song.

For “Hello/Hello”, the song represents a woman who lives in room 101. The vocals are by music artist yama (who is recently become known for her song “color” (which was used as the ending theme for “SPYxFAMILY”). The music and lyrics are by Nakimushi and the song’s illustration is by one of Japan’s hottest illustrators, NAKAKI PANTZ.

The illustration shows a woman smoking, with her makeup on a desk and the woman looking at herself in the mirror.

As I was listening to this beautiful song, I was absolutely in love with this rock ballad.  But it’s the beautiful vocals of yama that really touched me, especially when she sings the chorus (translated in English):

Hello, Hello
The weekend when I was staring my numb fingers,
miraculously you looked back at me under the night sky.
Hello, Hello
Locking up your White breath and the proof of your life,
As if to whisper “See you again” beyond the starry sky.

This song is about loneliness and then meeting someone that you the time, short or long, you just have a feeling that this person just makes you feel happy.  But at the end of the day, the day ends and in this case, the person she was with telling her “well, see you soon”.

If anything, the song really is captivating with its melody and yama’s vocals give you a sense of yearning of wishing more instead of just a “see you soon”.

As a guy, I don’t know how many times I’ve met someone and spent time with them for the day and no matter how well things go, you just never pursue it.  All you are left is with a memory of that wonderful moment and wonder “what if?”.

Needless to say that this song was my first foray into the music of MAISONdes and made me a big fan of the overall concept and many songs later, still enjoying it.  But this concept began with this song “Hello/Hello” and what a wonderful debut song for this project.  Recommended!
