In 2024, we are seeing the popularity of joystick-less arcade stick’s becoming super popular.
I have reveiwed a few from different companies and I have to say that I’m a believer of these arcade sticks because I was pulling off moves much better with these arcade sticks that I was shocked!
Which leads me to the Mytrix Arcade Stick, a 16-button arcade stick that offers so much more and no doubt, bang for your buck.
So, who is Mytrix? Mytrix is a company that is known for creating artistic and cute controllers for the Nintendo Switch and also controllers for the Playstation and XBOX. Also accessories and more!
For one, how can I play games that I usually play with a joystick (and I mean joy stick with the knob) that is all-buttons. I know it sounds weird.
While I wasn’t sure if I can have success with a shmup or rhythm game, I decided to put the Mytrix Arcade Stick through various tests on popular fighting games and shmups. Testing on “King of Fighters”, “Street Fighter”, “Tekken” and more!
This arcade stick works for Windows 10 and above, Steam Deck, PS3, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Raspberry Pi, MiSTer, Android, Linux, iPadOS, MacOS, PS5 and XBOX.
The arcade stick retails for $99 but Amazon offers a $20 off coupon.
And like my experience with other sticks, this one, I was able to pull of awesome moves that I can’t on a regular arcade stick.
But I eventually beat the game’s final boss but I felt my fingers were getting things down, although the other part of my brain was trying to figure out, how am I doing this? So, surreal!
But I was able to use the characters with no issues but it does take time getting used to but somehow, it makes it easy. But there are a few things I liked about this Mytrix Arcade Stick is that you have these other buttons on the top right for Turbo, Touch, Home, Select and Start and also the extra buttons on the bottom.
There is so much more buttons than I have used on similar arcade sticks but the more the merrier and I like the overall size. It feels just right!
If I do have one major advice, make sure that you can place the joypad in a desk that is comfortable for you and that hopefully is ergonomically positioned. I was playing on my desk which is not ergonomic, so my wrist was hurting after long playtimes with it. But that’s not the problem of the pad itself, its how your desk and play area is.
The arcade stick also offers SOCD (Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Direction) mode.
The arcade stick also has RGB lighting and on the upper left is a LCD screen. For PC, there is a web configurator and last but not least, you get extra button cover/caps, two switches and keycap puller.
Overall, the Mytrix Arcade Stick may not make sense by looking at it. But once you start playing on it, you realize how awesome it is because it does work! Last but not least, just make sure you have a good position to put this arcade stick, so you don’t mess up your wrist or hands/fingers by playing this a long time (take breaks/ergo stretches).
