In Japan, seeing certain working vehicles captures my attention. While I was in Itabashi, Tokyo, this big yellow hulking machinery caught my eye.
It’s the Maeda Crawler Crane CC1485 (which has now been upgraded to CC1485SA-2 Stage V) from Maeda Seisakusho Co., Ltd., a company that has been around since 1962 for sales or rental of construction equipment, industrial machinery and steel structural products.
Maeda is known for their work horse cranes which are made in Japan and sold internationally.
This particular version is the 2016 Maeda CC1485 fro the look of it. Uses a telescopic boom, maximum lift height of 1,670 CM and maximum lift capacity of 6,000 kg. Engine was manufactured by Isuzu. There are options to add a single fall hook, search hook or single fall hook, fly jib and additional black rubber pads and in later models, a blade for construction work.
But I think the cool part about what Maeda offers is custom paint colors, so you will see some of these crawler cranes in black, red or blue. Granted, yellow just feels right for construction.
Construction happens all over Tokyo a lot. Space is precious and buildings are torn down to be rebuilt for modern feasibility and of course, being earthquake proof, but its interesting to see how high rises are formed and what equipment they use to get the job done.
