The One about the CHERRY XTRFY MX 2.0S Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard with New MX2A Switches

When it comes to mechanical keyboards, German-based company CHERRY is a reputable brand best known for their CHERRY Switches which many keyboard makers use. The company has been around since 1953 and is a huge global operating manufacturer for high-end mechanical keyboard switches and computer input devices.

XTRFY is a Saken, Sweden-based company that makes pro-level gaming gear in collaboration with well-known gamers since 2013. The company was acquired by CHERRY and gave CHERRY a way to get them more visibility in the gaming market as CHERRY XTRFY and also a foothold in the eSports scene.

Today, I am going to take a look at the CHERRY XTRFY MX 2.0S mechanical keyboard (wired).

Before I review this keyboard, it’s important to note for wired keyboards, CHERRY XTRFY offers 3.0S and 2.0S. 3.0S is a high-performance gaming keyboard with a choice of illumination, color and switch options.

As for the MX 2.0S, this one can be seen as an artful classic keyboard. According to CHERRY XTRFY, “The streamlined German design concentrates on functionality, using the Bauhaus principle as its basis. Designed by Prof. Peter Raab, lecturer at Coburg University, the exterior and interior have been optimized”.

The interior utilizes the well-known CHERRY MX technology and German design. The keycaps are abrasion resistant, features full N-Key Rollover, reduced German design, anti-ghosting and has a win key lock. The keyboard is offered in MX switch Red or Brown but I found out that the one I am using is MX2A Blue, which answers why it’s so clicky.

This is a full-sized classic looking keyboard. Much better typeface on the fonts utilized which gives it its artistic stye and minimalistic approach.

With that being said, this is one of those keyboards that people will love for gaming and also for work. Probably for work, but because it’s blue keys, other people will probably hear your keypresses. I do like it as it feels comfortable to type and no problems whatsoever.

But it’s minimalistic design and it being a wired keyboard for $90, this is no doubt an example of where you are paying for a brand name mechanical keyboard. There are no extra anything included with this mechanical keyboard. What you get is minimalistic German design via CHERRY XTRFY and I absolutely love the look of the typeface used for the keyboard. But at the same time, feeling that this is one heck of an expensive wired keyboard.

With that being said, I do feel that you are getting quality but also knowing that if tri-mode, gasket mounted and hot swappable keycaps/switches are your thing, then this mechanical keyboard is not for you.

But I look at this as a higher end classic keyboard made by a big brand, ala CHERRY XTRFY. $90 maybe a bit too much for a lot of people for what the CHERRY XTRFY MX 2.0S wired mechanical keyboard offers. You are paying extra for that brand and quality.
