The One about Day 32 of my Holiday Film Marathon for 2023: Merry Swissmass (2022)

For the most part, it was a good dramatic holiday film.  But a wee bit less on the holiday spirit, as Sweetin plays a character that is uncomfortable because her ex-bestfriend is staying with her family, making things feel awkward.  But fortunately, as holiday films tend to be…there is a happiness and hope but if you are in that mood where things are a bit unwell, sometimes you need something with a little sadness from time to time.  This is that film.

When Alex meets Liam, single father and manager of the inn, he shows her all the Swiss traditions and to love and forgive this holiday season.

It’s day 32 of the holiday marathon and the next film is titled “Merry Swissmas” and what makes this film interesting is that it stars “Full House” star Jodie Sweetin, who also was part of the Hallmark Holiday team with Candace Cameron Bure (who played her older sister on “Full House” and “Fuller House”).

Many people may not know that Sweetin’s first fore in Christmas was “It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown” back in 1992 and would reappear in a 2013 holiday film “Defending Santa” with Dean Cain.

Sweetin would make her Hallmark debut in the 2017 film “Finding Santa” and has appeared in Hallmark holiday films since then.  But with “Merry Swissmas”, this makes her debut on a Lifetime film.  But interesting enough is that she starred in a Hallmark holiday film that same year in 2022 for “A Cozy Christmas Inn” which is a continuance of the story of “Christmas Under Wraps” starring Candace Cameron Bure.

Nevertheless, this is all interesting because Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin were involved in a public spat after Candace Cameron Bure moved over to Great American Family and said that GAF would be keeping “traditional marriage at the core”.  Both have opposing views.  But in this day and age where people with opposing views tend to cancel each other, personally I hope these two can move past their differences and start talking to each other.

And it didn’t help back in August, when Sweetin was not so pleased that her independent film “Craft Me a Romance” was purchased by Great American Family and vowed that any potential or future money made on the film would go to LGBTQ+ organizations.

Now, with watching “Merry Swissmas”, the holiday film delves into two childhood friends who became estranged and it took the holidays to mend their friendship once again years later.  While I’m not sure if people watched this holiday film thinking, I hope Jodie and Candace can be “cool” again.

So, the film revolves around successful and busy businesswoman Alex (portrayed by Jodie Sweetin).  Always traveling, always doing business, but for the holidays, she’s going to go to Switzerland to visit her mother who purchased an inn (her mother and father grew up in Switzerland).

And while she expected a family reunion with her brother and his family, his mother neglected to tell her that she invited Beth (portrayed by Mikaela Lily Davies) and her mother to Switzerland as well.

This upset Alex as she feels betrayed that her once best-friend Beth has a relationship with her ex-boyfriend, who was once the love of her life.

Meanwhile, she meets Liam (portrayed by Tim Rozon), a widower raising a son who is working on her mother’s inn.  While the two have a good bond, he doesn’t want to get too close because she’s a busy businesswoman who travels the world and probably not stay in Switzerland.
