For day 24 of my holiday film viewing, the next film is “Christmas Land”, a Hallmark film from 2015.
Directed by Sam Irvin (“Elvira’s Haunted Hills”, “Dante’s Cove”) and written by Daisy MacLean, Robin Archer and Jay Cipriani. The holiday telefilm stars Nikki Deloach (“Love & Other Drugs”, “Five More Minutes” films), Luke Macfarlane (“Killjoys”, “Over There”, “Brothers & Sisters”), Jason-Shane Scott (“One Life to Live”), Maureen McCormick (“The Brady Bunch”) and more!
The film begins in the past with Christmas Land owner Glinda Stanwick (portrayed by Maureen McCormick) with her young granddaughter, Jules Cooper. Jules absolutely loves her grandmother’s Christmas attraction which brings many people to the Christmas tree farm.
Fastforward and Jules is an executive who just received a promotion and living life in the big city with her attorney boyfriend Mitchell (portrayed by Jason-Shane Scott).
As the two plan a vacation trip, Jules receives a letter that her grandmother’s land for Christmas Land has been left to her. Jules has to meet with the attorney to receive the land and she and Mitchell want to sell it for profit.
So, Jules heads back to the farm and with the intentions of selling, she meets with the attorney Tucker Barnes (portrayed by Luke Macfarlane) and he and many of the townspeople think that Jules came home to bring back Christmas Land. But in truth, she has no intention of wanting to start Christmas Land.
But feeling the pressure and seeing how many people love the place, in the spirit of her Grandmother, she decides she will do it for this year and then sell it. And she receives a lot of help thanks to Tucker and those in town.
But the longer Jules stays in town, she rediscovers the love that she had for Christmas Land and how many people love it as well. But for her boyfriend Mitchell, he sees dollar signs and wants to have her sell the farm immediately.
Will she do it?
For the most part, while “Christmas Land” has the storyline of character returns back to her small town and rediscovers love. This one is first and foremost, a character who returns back to her small town because she rediscovers her love for Christmas Land. There are romance elements, but the primary story is about Jules rediscovering her love for Christmas and while she is now a city girl, there are some small town things that she loves.
It’s actually a good storyline that one would expect from a Hallmark film, with a solid budget and for the most part, a Christmassy atmosphere which I do like a lot.
“Christmas Land” is definitely a holiday film worth recommending!
