Jerry accidentally causes Elaine’s breakup with her boyfriend, a recovering alcoholic, when he resumes drinking. George shows his gratitude to Elaine for finding him a job by buying her a discounted cashmere sweater, hoping she won’t notice the slight blemish in the fabric.
As I wait for more holiday films to be made available and easily accessible (as I am reviewing this in advance), I am going to review a few Christmas episodes for now.
A Christmas episode that I am reviewing is from “Seinfeld” season three, episode 12 titled “The Red Dot”.
This is a hilarious episode as Jerry (portrayed by Jerry Seinfeld) and George (portrayed by Jason Alexander) are invited to Elaine’s office Christmas party. They are introduced to her new boyfriend who is a recovering alcoholic. But unbeknownst to Jerry, he has an alcoholic drink in his hand which he gives to her boyfriend who drinks the alcohol.
Meanwhile, Elaine shows kindness to George by getting him a job at her workplace. And to show how grateful he is, he goes shopping for a gift for Elaine, and finds a beautiful cashmere sweater that is sold on clearance very cheaply because it has a red dot on it.
The following day, Elaine is noticing that by drinking alcohol at the party, her boyfriend who was a recovering alcoholic is drinking again. Meanwhile, George and Jerry try to pretend that they were not aware of the red spot on her new sweater which Kramer (portrayed by Michael Richards) immediately sees and tells her about it.
As for George, the first day on the job, he sees the cleaning lady and he has sex with her on top of his work desk. But in order to stop her from telling anyone about it, he gives the cashmere sweater with a red dot to her.
But George doesn’t know the cleaning lady is obsessed with cashmere and to have her gifted with a cashmere sweater, she is all happy…until she discovers the red dot.
I absolutely love “Seinfeld”, you literally can watch this series over and over and one has to remember, back then, it was cool to air a show about four friends who really had a different outlook on life compared to others and so, a lot of things were not politically correct. These days, these type of shows or one’s behavior, can lead to some kind of cancel culture in society but for those who grew up with this series, to come home to watch a series after a long dose of reality, this show was a perfect escape.
From George having sexy with a cleaning lady on the first day of his job. For him buying a white cashmere sweater on clearance because it has a red dot, thinking no one would notice. Jerry giving a recovering alcoholic, a glass of alcohol. Kramer getting drunk on Hennigan’s scotch and more.
Also, an interesting episode to see actor David Naughton playing Elaine’s boyfriend. David Naughton is best known for his role in the ’80s such as “An American Werewolf in London”, “Hot dog… The Movie” and was a familiar face during the ’70s and ’80s.
Anyway, this Christmas episode was hilarious and a good flow of craziness. Definitely one of the best “Seinfeld” episodes ever made!
