Phoebe finds out that her picture of her father, whom she has never known, is just a generic photograph that comes with the picture frame. Elsewhere, after Ross makes Monica’s heater malfunction, her Christmas party guests swelter in the middle of winter.
As I await for certain Christmas sales to come up during this holiday marathon (unfortunately, a lot of the titles are still expensive and some of the holiday films have not aired on televison yet), so I decided, why not watch a few Christmas TV episodes and review those for the time being.
With the shocking death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry, I wanted to watch the first Christmas episode for “Friends” which was the ninth episode of the second season titled “The One with Phoebe’s Dad”.
It’s the holiday season and the friends are preparing for a holiday party, meanwhile when Ross brings a picture frame, Phoebe (portrayed by Lisa Kudrow) proclaims that the man in the frame picture is her father. Her friends tell her that guy is the model used for the picture frame, but Phoebe insists that it’s her father.
Meanwhile, Rachel (portrayed by Jennifer Aniston) is still pissed at Ross (portrayed by David Schwimmer) for him making a list of negative things about her.
But after receiving some convincing from her friends, she meets up with her grandmother Frances (portrayed by Audra Lindley) who tells her why she promised her mother not to discuss her father but gives her the information to seek him out.
Meanwhile, the friends who are supposed to celebrate a holiday party must deal with the A/C going out and now their party full of people have made them change their Christmas party to a surprise luau party because it’s so hot in their apartment.
As for Phoebe, she gets support from Chandler Bing (portrayed by Matthew Perry) and Joey Tribbiani (portrayed by Matt LeBlanc) to visit the father who left her. But will she meet with him?
As for the episode, my goodness, this is the first time in many years since I watched this episode. But I remember watching it when it first aired and remember watching the reruns. I mean this is one of those episodes that you pretty much remember line by line if you were a big fan of “Friends”.
Another memorable scene was to see the late Audra Lindley, playing Phoebe’s grandmother but most people will remember her playing Mrs. Roper from “Three’s Company”.
