Starring Mya. Once a promising singer-songwriter, Abby now finds herself writing uninspired jingles. As she heads home for the holidays, she’s enlisted to help save the school arts program.

For day 11, we have a delightful holiday film titled “My Favorite Christmas Melody” directed by Michael Kennedy (“The Kids in the Hall”, “Good Witch”, “#Roxy”) and written by Josh Brekkhus and Lauren Balson Carter.

The film stars singer Mya (“Chicago”, “Moulin Rouge!”), Rainbow Sun Francks (“Stargate Atlantis”, “High Fidelity”, “The Umbrella Academy”), Shakura S’Aida (“Batwoman”, “Lost Girl”, “Schitt’s Creek”) and many more.

In this holiday film, Mya plays the role of a singer named Abby trying to get her name known.

One day at a live performance, Abby sings a Christmas song which a popular singer named Casey (portrayed by Niki Kerro) recorded the song and the song is released and becomes a Christmas favorite.

Upset that a popular artist stole her song and no legitimate proof that she wrote the song, due to copyright rule, Abby can’t do anything and her boss tells her to pursue making songs for advertisements.

Three years later and during the holidays, Abby hears her stolen holiday song played everywhere and a painful reminder that song was hers and now she hates it with a passion.

One day, Abby’s mother asks her to come visit her because she needs Abby’s help with the raising funds for the band club, but the arts program may lose it’s funding.  As the Board of Supervisors don’t see the value of performing arts.

While visiting the school, Abby meets the band teacher Travis (portrayed by Rainbow Sun Francks) and with her mother’s plea for help, Abby and Travis are dedicated to making sure the Christmas pageant is the best, so they can continue to get their funding.

But working together, can Abby and Travis get the children ready to put on a wonderful performance?

For the most part, I enjoyed this holiday film.  Mya has a magnificent voice and was great to see her again and performing songs on this holiday film.  Also, found it fascinating to hear Rainbow Sun Francks sing as well.

But for the most part, I don’t think I have come across a holiday storyline such as this one.  So, it’s quite fresh and also quite awesome! You have to love Mya’s vocals and the songs on this holiday film are just amazing.

“My Favorite Christmas Melody” is no doubt one of the better holiday films I have watched in this holiday marathon for 2023.
