Danielle returns to her hometown for the holidays with her young son Paul hoping to introduce him to some beloved holiday traditions, in particular the town’s North Pole Express train.
We have reached day 40 of the holiday film marathon, and today we are checking out the Lifetime Television 2021 telefilm, “Toying with the Holidays”.
The film is directed by Bradley Walsh (“Northern Rescue”, “When Hope Calls”, The Holiday Calendar”) and written by Buddy Baron (“Magic Stocking”, “Sleigh Bells Ring”).
The film stars Chad Michael Murray (“One Tree Hill”, “Freaky Friday”, “A Cinderella Story”), Cindy Busby (“Supernatural”, “Cedar Cove”, “The Big Year”), Kate Trotter (“Tru Love”, “Upside Down”, “The Silence”), Callum Shoniker (“On the Basis of Sex”, “The Boys”, “Polar”), Paulino Nunes (“Designated Survivor”, “Brooklyn”), Izaak Smith (“So You Think You Can Dance Canada”, “A Fighting Man”) and Hanneke Talbot (“Star Trek: Discovery”, “Titans”).
The film revolves around Danielle Prescott, a single mother who is also a designer who has a big chance of becoming a head executive.
With the holidays, Danielle has promised to go back home to visit her mother, her first time in five years and also missing Christmas with her father who had passed a year earlier.
While Danielle’s boss has her working on a design project during the holidays, when Danielle arrives back home to meet with her mother Kate (portrayed by Kate Trotter) and Danielle’s son Paul (portrayed by Callum Shoniker), she heard that the holiday train that her father had maintained, is no longer in use. And since her father maintained it, she was hopes to find a way to bring it back.
Meanwhile, her father had vintage locomotives for his train set that he had at the house. She wants to get it repaired and goes to the local antique shop owned by Kevin Vaughn (portrayed by Chad Michael Murray), who happens to be a train fanatic.
Danielle hopes to bring back the train that she and many children rode in the Christmas festival and what happens when she and Kevin work together in trying to find a way to bring it back?
This film is fascinating as it pertains to a ride that an adult treasured as a child but finds out that it had been decommissioned and wants to bring it back to the town’s Christmas festival and the only person aside from her family that is also hoping to make it come true, is her old classmate.
It’s a touching romance story about two people who are very different because of where they live and their careers but with Danielle, being a person who lives in the big city, returning back home for the holidays, she gets closer to this classmate, and before you know it, there is an attraction.
But what happens when his girlfriend comes back? And what about Danielle’s big project that she has to finish during the holidays for her boss, in order to get a promotion?
Great to see “One Tree Hill” actor Chad Michael Murray and “Supernatural” actress Cindy Busby together working on the same holiday film together!
