A modern-day re-imagining of William Shakespeare’s play “Much Ado About Nothing,” set at Christmastime.

It’s day 24 of my Christmas film marathon and the next film I am watching is “Much Ado About Christmas”, a holiday and modern re-imagining of William Shakespeare’s play.

The film aired on Great American Family (GAC) and is the second holiday film I am reviewing that is directed and written by actor Michael Damian and his wife, Janeen.

The film stars Susie Abromeit (“Love in Bloom”, “Jessica Jones”), Torrance Coombs (“The Originals”, “Still Star-Crossed”, “Around Robin”), James Rottger (“The Lost King”, “Scene to Seen”), Emma Colling (“The Attraction Test”), Jacinta Mulcahy (“Endeavour”, “Lucy, the Human Chip”, “Faded Glory”), OIivier Raynal (“Detroit: Become Human”, “The Spanish Apartment”), Nathan Richard (“Woke”) and more.

The film introduces us to Haley (portrayed by Susie Albromeit), the daughter of the wealthy founder of Lloyd Enterprises, Leona Lloyd (portrayed by Jacinta Mulcahy).

Haley and her friend, Beatrice (portrayed by Emma Colling) attend the Lloyd Enterprise Christmas party.

Meanwhile, three employees from the small advertising firm, Blue Sky Advertising, who have been invited to the event, hope to make Lloyd Enterprises their next client.

While the three guys attend the party, Claude Miller (portrayed by Torrance Coombs), a designer for the advertising agency, runs into Haley and it’s like love at first sight.  Meanwhile, Beatrice also meets her ex-boyfriend, Ben, who also works at Blue Sky.

While Haley knows that Claude is trying to get Lloyd Enterprises as a client, she decides to keep it secret to him that she is the daughter of the founder of the company.  But how long can Haley keep this a secret to Claude?

For the most part, this is probably one of the more extravagant productions I’ve seen for a Great American Family holiday telefilm.    Michael Damian and Janeen Damian have become a wonderful powerhouse of a couple and I’m surprised the two took a break from the holiday telefilm scene since their 2011 film “A Princess for Christmas”, to return in 2020 with “The Christmas Waltz” and this film for 2021 (the couple also have a new holiday film with Lindsay Lohan titled “Falling for Christmas).

But it’s cool to see the William Shakespeare adaptation for a holiday film and while the storyline is somewhat predictable, I feel that the Christmas production, set design, costume design and what went into making this film feel Christmassy, was very cool!    Definitely one of the better productions I have seen in a holiday film, so that’s a plus!

I also like the character exchanges of friends having fun and for the most part, the modern holiday storyline makes this adaptation work well. I was definitely entertained and I recommend “Much Ado About Christmas” and also for people to keep an eye out for upcoming Michael and Janeen Damian holiday telefilms.
