Back in 2004, “A Cinderella Story” starring Hilaryu Duff and Chad Michael Murray was released in theaters and was a box office success.

The film would then jumpstar the “A Cinderella Story” film series which was released to direct-to-video every few years with “Another Cinderella Story” (2008), “A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song” (2011) and “A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits” (2016).

And now the fifth installment of the “A Cinderella Story” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD titled “A Cindrella Story” Christmas Wish”.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray which I am reviewing in this blog post.  The opinions I share are my own.

The film is written and directed by filmmaker Michelle Johnston (who directed the last “A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits”) and stars Laura Marano (“The Perfect Date”, “Lady Bird”, “Austin & Ally”), Gregg Sulkin (“Faking It”, “White Frog”, “Runaways”), Isabella Gomez (“One Day at a Time”, “Matdador”), Lillian Doucet-Roche (“Wu Assassins”, “The Miracle Season”, “Blurt”), Johannah Newmarch (“:When Calls the Heart”, “Stargate SG-1”) and Chanelle Peloso (“The Bletcley Circle: San Francisco”, Another Life”, Trezzo Mahoro (“Van Helsing”, “The Magicians”, “To Al lthe Boys I’ve Loved Before”) and more.

And now the film will be released on Blu-ray and DVD. and also the film will be released digitally.

Kat Decker (portrayed by Laura Marano) is an aspiring singer/songwriter who is working as a Christmas elf at a local billionaire’s Christmas tree lot, Terrence Wintergarden’s Santa Land.

Kat lives with her cruel and conniving stepmother Deirdre (portrayed by Johannah Newmarch) and her deceitful sisters Joy (portrayed by Lillian Doucet-Roche) and Grace (portrayed by Chanelle Peloso).  They make her do her chores, they give her a hardtime but there is not much Kat could do, because her father passed and the only people in her life is her English bulldog and her best friend Isla (portrayed by Isabella Gomez).

Kat ends up falling for her co-worker Nick (portrayed by Gregg Sulkin) who works at the Christmas lot as Santa, not knowing that he is the son of the billionaire that owns Santa Land.

But when her family finds out that Kat’s deceased father was good friends with the Terrance Wintergarden, they concoct a plan in trying to get an invitation to the Wintergarden Christmas Gala and will do all they can to prevent Kat from attending it.

One thing that one can always depend on, especially when watching a film in the “A Cinderella Story” film series, is that you get a delightful, entertaining romance story with comedy and drama.

With “A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish”, you get an entertaining story inspired by a “Cinderella” story about a talented aspiring singer/songwriter named Kat Emerson seeking her big break.

Unfortunately, with her father having passed away, her step mom and two daughters are cruel to her and are living off of her inheritance.

Because she has a French Bulldog that she takes care of, her step mother forces her to work and become a singing elf at billionaire Terrence Wintergarden’s Santa Land.

Prior to that, her family made her trip in front of Nick Wintergarden and his friends and upload her with coffee spilled on her on social media for the world to see, and Kat quickly become a meme, “Starbucks Girl”.

When she gets to work, what she doesn’t know is Santa is being played by Nick Wintergarden, who took the job secretly.

And as the Wintergarden Christmas Gala is around the corner, both Kat and Nick grow closer, but Kat not knowing who the man behind the Santa costume really is.

Meanwhile, Kat’s cruel family discovers that her deceased father was best friends with Nick Wintergarden and wanting to go to the Wintergarden Christmas Gala in hopes to charm the widowed Wintergarden, they get tickets to the Winter Gala with one of Kat’s stepsisters pretending she is Kat.

And doing all they can to make sure that Kat never attends the party.  But what happens when Kat discovers who the guy wearing the Santa costume really is?

For the most part, I enjoyed this direct-to-video film, as it was what I have been expecting.  A delightful love story and surprised to see the musical elements, but it worked for the film quite nicely.  If anything, it’s a feel-good Cinderella type of film.  As for Laura Marano, she has come a long way since starring in the Disney Channel’s “Austin & Ally” and her voice is still incredible.

And her and “Runaways” star Gregg Sulkin both have chemistry in the film and both worked very well together.

For the most part, for those wanting a feel-good young romance story, especially during the holidays, definitely give “A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish” a chance.  It’s delightful, fun and entertaining!
