As I review a lot of gaming hardware each year, for headsets, it will be interesting to see what companies have in store for 2022-2023.
For today, I am taking a look at the RIG 400HA Precision Audio and Chat Performing PC Gaming Headset. RIG is part of the parent gaming company Nacon which is a French video game company formerly Bigben Interactive (both were merged into a single entity back in 2002).
And since then NACON has grown to acquire numerous development companies, while their video game accessories, instead of going with the Nacon brand, they went full force in developing RIG GAMING, a premium gaming accessory brand for tournament audio for professional gaming.
So, for those wondering, in this competitive gaming industry, with NACON having its foothold many years ago with gaming accessories, it continues in the form or RIG.
And as far as their headsets go, they vary in price with 300 Pro Series for the gamer on a budget, the 400 series for those willing to spend around $50-$60, while their 500 series used for competitive gaming (around $70-$80), while their 700 series is their most expensive headset but for those who want a headset that is ultralight and wireless.
But my review is for the RIG 400HA Precision Audio and Chat Performing PC Gaming Headset. Featured in camouflage and looks very cool!
Has a detachable mic boom, speakers utilizes 2 x Dynamic 40mm drivers with a maximum input power of 40 mw.
Headstrap is lightweight, cushions are fabric and are comfortable, while there is inline volume and mute controls.
The cable is 1.2 meters (3.93 foot) long, the connector is 3.5mm and comes with a Y-Adapter for those who want to use it for PC gaming.
Now what makes this different from the 500 series? For one, the 500 uses two Dynamic 50 mm drivers (the 400 series is 40mm), is not fabric like the 400 series but dual material ear cushions and the mic boom is flip to mute.
So, there are slight differences between the two. But the difference in sound that you are going to get is bass. The 500 will deliver more bass, but if you are a person who doesn’t care for the need of more bass should be perfectly fine with the 400 series.
If anything, the 400 series and the 300 series are more comparable. Microphone and speaker specs are the same, but the 300 utilizes a flip up mic boom and is only available in black and white and sold exclusively from a well-known brick and mortar gaming store.
But one of the pluses of the 400 series is that you can purchase it various colors such as black, white and also urban, arctic or forest camo.
The version I am reviewing is the green camo version.
While the sound for the 400 series sounds really great and you can hear whispers and footsteps really clearly, if anything, the sound is good. But I tend to like a bit more bass (although the bass is adequate and concerned parents my want to go for this headset, if you do not want too much bass if you are planning to buy your young gamer a headset).
Even switching this from my consoles to PC, playing several games on STEAM and also listening to music, it’s very good, but again, if you want more of a better bass response, you’re going to want to move up to the 500 series.
As for the mic, mic is clear and people I have played with have said sounds come quite clear, but to be truthful, I am not the biggest of detachable mics, as I am known to have misplaced or somehow find the detachable boom mic missing, to be never found again.
The volume adapter is sliding and no static issues while sliding it and no problems for the most part with this headset.
If anything, I have to say that the RIG 400HA Precision Audio and Chat Performance PC Gaming Headset is no doubt one of the more cool looking headsets. The different camo versions will no doubt appeal to fans of shooters and the comfort of the headset was a plus because no ear aches or pain near my ear areas during long durations of gameplay.
And while this is not their ultralight version like their 700 series, I do feel the headset was light compared to other wired gaming headsets I have reviewed in the past.
Overall, this is a solid headset from RIG. They nailed the style/aesthetics for the gamer who are into shooters, also for comfort and good sound. But if you are not picky about color selection or whether or not it’s a flip up mic or detachable, you may want to consider the cheaper RIG 300 Pro Series headset as well.
The RIG 400HA Precision Audio and Chat Performance PC Gaming Headset is recommended!
