Lifetime’s first-ever Christmas sequel to last year’s hit movie, Merry Liddle Christmas, Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding once again follows Jacquie Liddle (Kelly Rowland), as she and Tyler (Thomas Cadrot) try to plan their perfect destination Christmas wedding. Naturally, Jacquie’s plans go awry when her boisterous family intervenes in her planning and her snooty wedding planner quits in protest. While nothing goes as initially planned, Jacquie and Tyler get a Christmas wedding more memorable than they could have ever dreamed.

We have reached day 30 of my holiday film marathon and today’s film is the second film to feature the Liddle family which I raved about with the first film “Merry Liddle Christmas” (2019) which aired on the Lifetime Television network.

I raved of how it features the slickest production I have seen for a holiday telefilm. May it be overall production, costume design, set design and awesome acting, the second film “Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding” is another wonderful film in the Liddle family series (the third “Merry Liddle Christmas Baby” was released in 2021, which I will review in a few days from now).

And I can see why there is big love for the Liddle family and the holiday films because are they truly special and so fun to watch!

But what is even more impressive is that we have a film (like the first) not just focusing on an all African-American cast. So, in many ways, for the holiday films, this is groundbreaking and hopefully will open the gates of us seeing more holiday films with Latino and Asian American cast and crew in the near future as well.

“Merry Liddle Wedding” is directed by Sharon Lewis (“Brown Girl Begins”, “Disruptor Conductor”, “With Wonder”) and written by Andrea Stevens (“Taxi Brooklyn”, “Charmed”, “First Wave”) and the film is executive produced by Kelly Rowland (singer, Destiny’s Child member, actress), who also plays the main protagonist.

Along with Rowland, “Merry Liddle Christmas” also stars Thomas Cadrot (“Debris”, “The Good Doctor”), Bresha Webb (“Run the World”, “Meet the Blacks”, “A Fall From Grace”), Latonya Williams (“Travelers”), Debbi Morgan (“All My Children”, “The Hurricane”, “Eve’s Bayou”), Jaime M. Callica (“Hypnotic”, “Ruthless”, “Under Wraps”), Chris Shields (“Chappie”, “Elysium”, “Godzilla”), Thalia Campbell, Aiden Stoxx and more.

The film revolves around tech entrepreneur (owner of Liddle by Liddle Digital) Jacquie Liddle (portrayed by Kelly Rowland), after her success (from the first film) of winning over the brand and leading the tech division from Queen of the Castle and a successful relationship with Tyler Brooks (portrayed by Thomas Cadrot), the two are now engaged and will be marrying at a resort on Christmas Eve.

But there is one thing that worries Jacquie, it’s the holidays and when it comes to holidays, she knows her family is coming but she wants her wedding a certain way, and making sure her wedding planner calls the shots.

Her youngest sister Kiara (portrayed by Bresha Webb) is the Maid of Honor and her middle sister Treena (portrayed by Latonya Williams) is the Bridesmaid.  And Jacquie’s only rule, the wedding planner makes the decision, so let him control how things look and not interfere.

But for Kiara, she doesn’t know if her sister’s decision, especially the wedding planner, has a good plan because everything is all white.

Meanwhile, Treena with husband Julian (portrayed by Jaime M. Callica) want to have fun during this week and have time for themselves.  Especially as their daughter Ava can hang out with Tyler’s daughter Coco (portrayed by Nakai Takawira) and Jake (portrayed by Aiden Stoxx) and their baby is not with them, this is the romantic getaway they can have, especially as Ava doesn’t have to worry so much about the wedding, since Jacquie has a wedding planner.

But to Jacquie’s chagrin, when her mother Marchelle (portrayed by Debbi Morgan) and her two sisters keep butting into the wedding planner’s direction, he quits and wants all his decorations packed.  To make matters worse, Jacquee accidentally runs into the person holding the wedding cake and cake is ruined?

Will Jacquie’s Christmas wedding be canceled?  Or can the Liddle’s find a way to make this wedding still happen?

“Merry Liddle Wedding” is no doubt a film with slick production, awesome costume and set design just like the first film. And just like the first film, spot on casting and scenes that actually flow extremely well.

I also like how we get more of Kiara and Treena in this second film, which each have their own side storyline as well which made this film so much fun to watch!

I’ve reviewed numerous films about Lifetime Television being on the forefront of being progressive, and how they had a holiday film featuring an African-American couple, Latino family or an Asian American family but I think this is the first holiday telefilm which I have watched with an African-American family and like other ethnic portrayals, thrilled for the Liddle holiday telefilm series to showcase successful characters.

But I also feel the casting was perfect for this film. Kelly Rowland as the successful, determined Jacquie and her middle sister, Kiara (portrayed by Bresha Webb) are totally different from one another. Kiara is sassy and the type to not wanting to be one-upped by her sister. Both Kelly and Bresha were fantastic for this film. I love seeing Treena (portrayed by Latonya Williams) and husband Julian (portrayed by Jaime M. Callica) working on their relationship in this film.

And as mentioned in my review for the first film,I am grateful to see was Debbi Morgan once again reprise her role as Jacquie’s mother. Many of us grew up watching Debbi as Dr. Angie Baxter Hubbard on “All My Children” (and her short sting on “The Young and the Restless”). But Debbi is one of those legendary actresses who can play numerous emotional roles and make scenes come to life and she does an amazing job in this telefilm as Jacquie’s mother.

There is so much to love about this holiday telefilm, because once you watch the Liddle family, you want more each year and obviously, Lifetime has heard the call, because 2021 has aired the third film “Merry Liddle Christmas Baby” and many are loving it.

I absolutely loved this second film featuring the Liddle family and I look forward to watching the third! I hope they can keep the Liddle family going because it’s a one of those holiday titles that is full of Christmas spirit, Christmas magic, awesome characters, wonderful acting, entertaining story and awesome costume/set design.
