Finally! VUDU – FANDANGO- is now on the Oculus Quest/2.
I am a long time user of VUDU – FANDANGO- and I’m so thrilled that I can watch my purchased movies and television on my Oculus Quest 2.
For those not familiar with VUDU – FANDANGO-, you can purchase movies/TV’s from the app and let it be part of your collection. For those who buy Blu-rays or 4K Ultra HD, they typically come with a digital code which you can add the film/TV series to VUDU -Fandango-.
And it’s also a great way to ween oneself from going physical to digital.
The app is only 18MB and I was able to pair the app to a browser via code quickly and easily start accessing my movies and TV shows and I like how when I was watching, your visual environment dims.
I did not have choppy playback at all, but it’s subjective to the user and their Internet speed I suppose.
It does take a few clicks on touch controller trigger to watch something instead of once (for those used to using a mouse or a remote control) and there is copy protection, so if you try to record, you will notice the red recording light turning green and blue specks start showing up, as if its floating in front of you.
But for the most part, I have had no problems with watching a TV show or film in HDX and a benefit is that the screen is much bigger than watching on your smartphone, so if your TV is being used by your spouse or children, you can easily watch it on your Oculus Quest 2. Also, like the idea I can lay in bed with the pillows propped up and watch a movie or show on my headset.
I’m sure there are people who would like to see a home theater room visual environment or even a movie theater environment and that would be awesome. But it’s important to note that Big Screen for the Oculus Quest 2 already offers that and many have created their own theater room through movie screening events on AltSpace VR. But what I noticed is that both, many tend to use them for socializing than watching the actual movies it seems.
So, in a way, I like VUDU – FANDANGO- that it sticks with simplicity and you know that when you open the app, you are going to watch a movie or a TV show. But I do feel having a modern home theater room or a movie theater VR environment, would be quite nice.
But overall, for those who strictly want to watch it for movies and TV shows, VUDU -FANDANGO- is recommended for the Oculus Quest 2!
