The One about having Basque in my DNA (the latest Ancestry DNA Result Update)

Ancestry made their latest update for DNA results and with more and more people submitting their DNA, you start to see how the results start to focus on regions.

In the beginning, my DNA showed me as Pacific Islander and 1% India.

But then the next update would show Philippines and I was 1% Irish/Scottish. Followed by better localization of where in the Philippines and 1% Portugal.

For the latest update, 56% is from the Southern Philippines and 43% from Northern Philippines. And my mother was able to say who came from where from my grandparents side. But one thing that I was curious about is why my mother and my brother have very light skin.

I’m more on the slightly darker side when compared to them but each took their DNA tests and while my brother does not have the Basque, me and my mother do.

From what I have read about the Basque, their history is mysterious. There is no country that the Basque can claim, but they do live on the Bay of Biscay and in the western Pyurenees with four provinces of Spain and three in France around that region.

It is said that the Basques have been living their longer than anyone and their language is probably the oldest in modern Europe and unrelated to any other known language in the world.

The Basques were also seafarers that accompanied the conquistadors. And played a remarkably influential role in the creation and maintenance of Spain’s colonial establishment in the Philippines.

I really wish I knew more about our ancestry but the fact is that Filipino ancestry prior to the 1900’s are hard to find. Records I have found through microfilm looked like they had damage, possibly from flooding or flooding due to typhoons, but extreme water damage.

But nevertheless, as the latest update starts to zero in on the European connection, from Ireland/Scotland and then to Portugal, its fascinating now to see it become Basque with the latest update.

I look forward to seeing how my DNA results evolves overtime, as more DNA is submitted to Ancestry.
