The One about Ōfuna Kannon in Kamakura – Part 9: The Conclusion

Far often, have I seen things that caught my eye on the train or on the shinkansen which makes me want to visit a location and find out what I saw.

The Bodhisattva Kannon in Kamakura, also known as Ofuna Kannon, is one of those structures that I never expected to see.

Kamakura is known for its huge Buddha statue but I never expected to see this big white structure on top of a hill and trees all around it.

While the location is not huge, it offers a sight that you won’t see anywhere else.

In addition, it has an atomic bomb tie-in with Hiroshima and Nagasaki courtesy of the survivors and the flame. So for those who can’t make the ride out to Hiroshima and are in Tokyo, then definitely visit the location.

Last, because it’s located between Yokohama and Kamakura, one can easily take the stop at Ofuna Station, walk there and spend an hour just checking out what is to see at Ofuna Kannon.

So, it’s a good stopping area in the morning and it’s also inexpensive.

Overall, I’m grateful to have seen the Ofuna Kannon years ago and glad to have finally visit and spend time in the area.
