Ao no Dokutsu right near Yoyogi Park in Shibuya, Tokyo will kick off on November 29th through December 31st. (Free, 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.). One of the best Christmas Illumination areas of Japan (all blue, but quite surreal). You can easily reach it via arriving ala JR Yamanote to Harajuku Station, walking towards Yoyogi Park and then across the street.
One of the better Christmas Illumination in Tokyo is Caretta Illumination at Shiodome and is usually Disney themed. This year’s theme is “Arabian Night” (Aladdin) and begins on November 14th through February 14th.
Take the Ginza Line to Shimbashi Station and it’s a 5 min. walk to Caretta Shiodome. It’s 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., how it usually works is …8 min or so, illumination show./…people take pictures then it repeats to the illumination…people take pictures. And I noticed that within the half hour or so, each illumination has a two-part and are different.
And one of the largest illuminated spots in Tokyo is Tokyo Midtown (Akasaka) which kicks off on November 14th through December 25th. This will be from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Tokyo Midtown goes all out for Christmas and definitely should be on your bucket list places to visit for Christmas illumination and it’s free. Definitely worth visiting and then visiting the Roppongi Hills Christmas right after.
To get to Tokyo Midtown, You can take the Hanzomon Line (Purple Z) to Chiyoda Line (Green C) to Nogizaka Station (5 Minute Walk to Tokyo Midtown) or Ginza Line (Gold – G) to Chiyoda Line (Green – C) to Nogizaka Station (5 minute walk to Tokyo Midtown).
