For those who are planning to travel to somewhere around the world, especially in Japan and there are various theme parks, museums and attractions that you have your itinerary, about a month before you leave, I highly recommend going to Klook or Voyagin to see what kind of special deals you can get, instead of paying at the gate/door/ticket booth.
Both sites are different and one offers an attraction that the other doesn’t have, but it’s fairly easy but I do recommend the following:
- You have access to your e-mail while you are in another country (That’s another reason why I recommend renting an inexpensive pocket wifi device for your travel). Some attractions will send you a QR code the day before, so unless you have access to a printer, your phone or tablet will be experimental in holding towards a scanner.
- If you get your receipt or confirmation e-mail, remember to print it out and bring it with you when you head to that attraction.
- Get to the event early and don’t be late!
So, I’m going to show you a few examples.
EXAMPLE I: MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM—teamLab Borderless E-Ticket (Click here to purchase from Voyagin)
For teamLab Borderless, it’s the only place that will send you the ticket the day before your event. So, when you get the e-mail and it takes you to the site, I recommend doing a screen capture on your phone (as you may forget to recharge your pocket wifi or don’t have a pocket wifi, at least you can access the e-mail at your hotel and do a screen capture).
You can also purchase tickets to teamLab Planets here, but unlike Borderless, you get the e-mail with the QR code within hours of purchasing. So, you can easily print that out. Unlike Borderless, where you can show up anytime, with Planets, you must select a time slot of what time you will be there.
EXAMPLE II: Edo Wonderland E-Ticket (Click here to purchase from Klook)
Edo Wonderland sometimes offers entrance fee deals and now, knowing that most people who go to Nikko, also visit the Nikko Toshogu Shrine are now offering a package deal with a tour guide.
At the time I got these, it was for just the Edo Wonderland ticket and once I purchased, they will mail you (typically less than 24 hours) the following ticket information with a QR code. Just print this paper out and take it to the ticket booth and they give you a ticket and are ready to go!
It’s important to note that if you are just doing a one day trip, you can use your JR Pass to get there! Right in front of Nikko Station is a bus that takes you to Edo Wonderland. But it’s important to note that around 5:25 p.m., that’s the last train out. The next one before that is somewhere between 3:15-3:45 (there is a sign posted of when the bus leaves and also on the website). So, please keep that in mind!
EXAMPLE III: Robot Restaurant E-Ticket (You can purchase via Klook or Voyagin)
Robot Restaurant is usually Y7000 and before you could find Y1000 off tickets but now you can find them cheaper through Klook and Voyagin between Y4500-Y5500 ($43-$53).
And with Klook being the cheapest, you can get the ticket plus the food and souvenir which is awesome!
EXAMPLE IV: KAWAII MONSTER CAFE IN HARAJUKU (Purchase from Voyagin)
You won’t receive a QR code but you will get a confirmation e-mail with instructions. It’s easy to use, take it to the person handling admissions, she will then lead you inside the cafe. Very easy! And of all the attractions, Kawaii Monster Cafe one of the best deals in Japan.
But it’s important to note, there are days and times for family events and another for adults (ie. burlesque night) which is typically on a Thursday and Friday night, but definitely check the website to make sure).
But overall, that is how easy it is to use Klook and Voyagin. It’s a great place to get deals for many attractions not just in Japan but also attractions all over the world!
I highly recommend both services! Check it out!
