As you round the corner towards Nezu Shrine, you have different paths to choose from, you can go up the side and enter a path of torii including a shorter torii path.
As fascinating as it is to go up and see what is in that location, I opted to go through the torii section last. While I went up a little just for photo sake..
Throughout the area, you will find little signs showcasing various plants and also beautiful trees.
And while not the main shrine, you will see an area where people are coming for prayer. I was curious to see what was inside this area.
You will find an old fountain and also a lot of protective kitsune (fox) statues. The area is called “Bungo no Ishi” (Stone of the Literary Greats), famous for inspiring renown authors Soseki Natsume and Ogai Mori. Both who said they received their inspiration to write because of this area.
As you go through the area, you will see the Komagome Shrine.
And as I went back down to look at the Torii, while not as huge and numerous like Fushimi Inari in Kyoto, it no doubt adds something special to Nezu Shrine.
But what I wanted to see is the main building of Nezu Shrine, the honden (main hall) and I will discuss that in Part 3 of my coverage of Nezu Shrine!
