When traveling in Shibuya, you will see an interesting restaurant with a cute yellow chick character featured on its sign.
The location that I visited is located at: 25-3 Udagawacho, Shibuya, Tokyo Prefecture
The chick is the mascot for Kin-no-Torikara, a spot that originated from Kyoto that specializes in karaage (fried chicken).
The restaurant chain focuses on fried chicken using skinless chicken breast meat, no bone, created with a special recipe and you can choose up to eight toppings such as:
- Original Spice
- Mayonnaise
- Sweet Chili Sauce
- Lemon
- Mongolian Rock Salt
- Chocolate Sauce
Different regions offer additional but limited toppings. For example, Okazaki features Hatcho Miso Sauce, Kanto region features Curry, Kansai features BBQ, Yuzu Ponzu sauce, plum dressing, honey mustard sauce and red pepper.
My favorite is the lemon and also spice. The chicken is delicious, moist and tender and their secret recipe literally makes you want to order a double size because they are that good!
You can get meals for 290 yen, get a little more at 1.5 the size for 390 yen or get double size for 520 yen.
Of course, if you are having a party, you can get a Mega Size for 1,000 yen or a party pack for 1,500 yen.
And if you want to have more of a combo platter with rice, there are more dishes in the menu.
On March 29, 2016, Kin-no-Torikara expanded overseas with a new shop in Indonesia.
If you are going to Shibuya and want to eat karaage, definitely give “Kin-no-Torikara“.
