Pizza lover Hiroki Sarumaru wanted to bring New York-style pizza to Japan.
For those who aren’t familiar with New York-style pizza, it’s pizza that has a thin, crisp crust with delicious toppings and yes, served as completed or by the slice on paper plates.
The first store was created in at the Sarugaku-cho area of Shibuya in 2014, but wanting to create
With a goal of no compromises, he wanted to make sure that 100% authentic New York-style pizza was being served and sure enough, Pizza Slice was created.
With Pizza Slice receiving rave reviews and wanting a location that has more space and that allows for parties, Pizza Slice 2 in the Minami-Aoyama area of Minato ward (right across from Omotesando) opened.
Suffice to say, I’ve been to numerous parties at Pizza Slice 2.
If anything, Pizza Slice/Pizza Slice 2 is a pizzeria and while I haven’t been to the first restaurant, part of the cool thing about the Pizza Slice 2 is the atmosphere. It’s a big enough area for large groups to hang out and have fun, enjoy their pizza and a drink.
Also, for Japanese who want to experience New York-style pizza, the place is perfect!
The caveat that some may realize about Pizza Slice 2 is that the place can get busy. Many meetings take place at the location, a lot of people hanging out and of course, parties.
I’ve been to the location from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and it’s always busy. So, it’s good to see that business is thriving.
And I love how the place brings in celebrities, models and the hip and they have this art style going in terms of how the place is presented to the public. So, popular that people (especially international travelers) go to Pizza Slice 2 to take a picture of the giant slice of pizza and also to take photos at the establishment and post it on Instagram.

Also, what I liked about the place is that people were mindful and kept their areas clean. Go to an American pizzeria and you’ll find food, napkins or whatever all over the ground and you can hope that an employee comes to clean things up. At Pizza Slice 2, place was clean and people were respectful.
And as for the pizza, it was very good! Often the mushroom slice, cheese slice, pepperoni slice, Italian sausage slice, jalapeno slice, caesar salad slice and anchovy slice were popular. They also sold garlic knots. The pizzas that we ordered were huge and delicious!
Customer service was also awesome (note: they also have numerous English speaking staff).
But overall, Pizza Slice 2 was a very cool place to eat. But I love the place for its space and makes a great location for parties and large group gatherings to hang out and enjoy New York-style pizza!
