As an angler who loves catching fish, I also enjoy catching big chunky carp.
And I am a believer that things such as the popular Carp/Catfish product known as Wussy Bait or homemade carp feeder (typically bread crumbs, red jello and a can of corn) are quite popular. But aside from the bait itself, I am a believer in Carp Spring Rigs. I have managed to catch carp, catfish, pike minnows on these bait cages.
While I use a the popular Kumho Korean-made spring rig that released in the West by Blacktail, due to the popularity of those rigs, they have tripled in price just for one rig. So, I have been investigating other spring-based rigs and came upon the Life 4PCS Fishing Feeder Bait Cage, Fishing Lure Trap.
These fishing feeder bait cage appears to be made in Russia. Using Google Translator, the image says Universal Carp (30g).
The Life 4PCS Fishing Feeder Bait Cage, Fishing Lure Trap comes in several weights: 15g, 20g, 25g, 30g
I am using the 30g version. You get 4 for $13.67
The fishing feeder bait cage is much different than the Carp Spring Rigs that I have used. Where the other has the holder, the cage and three size 4 hooks on the bottom with about 3 inches of braided line.
This one is much different as the top portion has a swivel, and a metal hanger with one hook on a two inch braided line. The bottom of the spring has about three inches of line holding another hanger holding two hooks on a 2-inch line.
I filled the spring portion with the product Wussy Bait and corn. I was able to top two hooks and one I left loose with corn on it. Sometimes one hook (one of the bottom hooks) on the Wussy Bait with two hooks with corn.
I was able to catch up to five big and chunky carp in my first three hours. So, I can easily say that the Life 4PCS Fishing Feeder Bait Cage, Fishing Lure Trap worked as it should. It works differently than the other Carp Spring Rig I used but it did work and the carp was really reactive to the corn.
But I do recommend for newbies contemplating purchasing this bait cage:
1. Use a net with bigger holes or else when you catch fish, these hooks will get caught on nets with smaller holes.
2. Have your pliers ready to remove the hooks as you may see some get caught in the mouth, others that may get caught on the fish’s body.
3. When you are done fishing or when you are not fishing but have this on a line, use fishing line plastic covers for the hooks, so they don’t get caught inside your vehicle.
Overall, I couldn’t be more happy that I was able to catch big carp on this fishing feeder bait cage. But because you’ll be catching chunky fish, don’t be surprised if the strings break and you may need to tie another fish line and hook. And the fact that you get a total of four for under $13 is actually a very good deal (considering the carp spring right I usually have used is sold for about $8, cheaper on Blacktail’s site at $4.99 but considering that you pay quite a bit for shipping, they are about the same cost compared to the one that is sold at your local tackleshop).
But I really do like the Life 4PCS Fishing Feeder Bait Cage, Fishing Lure Trap and I recommend it!
