A new type of train has been unveiled in the Yamaguchi area for the first time in 45 years. JR West Japan unveiled three series of 227 series trains that will run on the Sanyo Line, “RedWing,” “Urara,” and “Kizashi,” to the press at the Shimonoseki General Rolling Stock Depot in Shimonoseki City.
Of these, “Kizashi” is the first new type of train to be introduced in the Yamaguchi area, following the “RedWing” in the Hiroshima area and the “Urara” in the Okayama area. The nickname “Kizashi” embodies the desire to bring about a new transformation in the Yamaguchi area. The design concept is “Sunshine of the Restoration.”
The jet black before dawn and the golden light shining through express the historical image of Yamaguchi. The interior prioritizes ease of boarding and alighting, with expanded space near the entrances. Destination displays are available in Japanese and English. In addition, barrier-free toilets and spaces for wheelchair and stroller users have been provided, making it easy for everyone to use.
The “Kizashi” train will be introduced between Iwakuni Station and Shimonoseki Station, with a total of nine trains (two-car and three-car formations) scheduled to replace existing trains sequentially from this summer onwards. This is a noteworthy train that will bring a fresh new look to Yamaguchi’s railways. This is the official news channel of KRY Yamaguchi Broadcasting.
