You are hungry and you are in Shibuya and spot this restaurant with its red sliding door and red carpet. What is this place?
Tenkaippin is a Japanese restaurant chain specializing in ramen noodles. In fact, the first restaurant was opened in Kyoto by Kimura Tsutomu back in 1981.
Throughout Japan, this chain has grown to over 225 restaurants in 38 Japanese prefectures and also has a restaurant in Hawaii.
The restaurant had guitar legend SUGIZO appear in its commercials”:
As well as the band SILENT SIREN:
As for the ramen, it’s a ramen restaurant worth visiting, if you need to scratch it off your ramen list. Tenkaippin ramen is “kotteri” style, which means, thick broth. But knowing that, do know that if you are someone that is trying to cut down on salt intake, this is not the place to visit as it can be a bit salty for some.
But the restaurant serves delicious ramen, but in terms of chains, does it dethrone Ichiran or Ippudo? It’s all subjective. Considering Japan has top tier ramen shops throughout the country.
But Tenkaippin is definitely an experience for ramen fans if they want to try a more “kotteri” style of ramen.
So, if you are walking around Shibuya not far from Shibuya Scramble Crossing, then definitely give this restaurant a try!
