The film is one that features a lot of Christmas decorations, Christmas sweets but also Christmas magic, and I think romantic comedy fans will eventually fall for. “A Sweet Christmas” is worth checking out!

When food stylist Holly returns home for Christmas, she learns that Loretta, the elderly owner of her favorite childhood bakery, is retiring & has started a contest to give the bakery to whomever can recreate her famous 12 Days of Christmas recipes. Holly enters, as does a local baker named Brad and the 2 adversaries end up cooking up something special together for the holidays.
For day 42, as we are now getting closer to the 50th final holiday film for the holiday film marathon which I began in November, and now I am checking out “A Sweet Christmas Romance”.
The holiday film which aired on Lifetime Television is directed by Michael Robison (“The Collector”, “The Outer Limits”, “Poltergeist: The Legacy”) and written by Kim Izzo.
The film stars Adelaide Kane (“The Purge”, “Power Rangers RPM”, “Reign”), Greyston Holt (“Riverdale”, “Supernatural”, “Bitten”, “Lonesome Dove Church”), Loretta Devine (“Grey’s Anatomy”, “Urban Legend”, “Boston Public”), Hamaza Fouad (“Supergirl”, “The TWilight Zone”, “Arrow”), Samantha Cole (“Private Eyes”, “V-Wars”, “iZombie”), Anita Brown (“Star Trek Beyond”, “Fifty Shades Freed), Frances Flanagan and more.
The film revolves around food stylist Holly who is hoping to get a big job working for a major publication. For the holidays, she decides to go back home and for the holidays, it’s having holiday cookies and snacks from Mrs. Rose’s Bakery owned by Mrs. Rose (portrayed by Loretta Devine).
For Holly, she grew up with the shop, even working there for years alongside her son Carson (portrayed by Hamza Fouad) and Loretta (portrayed by Samantha Cole).
Unfortunately, Holly is rocked with news from her family that Mrs. Rose is closing the bakery and Mrs. Rose asks Holly to meet with her.
And Holly finds out that Mrs. Rose has found love with a man in Alaska, so she is moving there to pursue her love. As for the shop, they are going to have a competition, they will give the shop to someone who can win the 12 Days of Christmas competition and can replicate Mrs. Rose’s Christmas recipes. And she, her son and Loretta are the judges. Carson has the final veto and if the person wins, if the winner doesn’t replicate his mom’s recipe, he is going to still sell the property.
Holly doesn’t want to see the the bakery close, because it means so much to the town and to her.
Holly also finds out that the local French pastrie chef for an expensive inn in town, Brad (portrayed by Greyston Holt) will be competing. And for Holly, she doesn’t wants some person winning the competition, so she decides to compete.
But what if Holly wins? Will she stay in town or will she head back in Manhattan, where her dream career is located?
I personally enjoyed “A Sweet Christmas Romance”, it’s a bit different from other Christmas telefilms in the fact that there is a cook-off and its two characters Holly and Brad are like oil/water but yet find common ground that they may actually fall in love.
The characters are entertaining and its always a pleasure to see actress Loretta Devine (who many of us grew up watching on “Boston Public” and “Grey’s Anatomy”) on this series.
But the film is one that features a lot of Christmas decorations, Christmas sweets but also Christmas magic, and I think romantic comedy fans will eventually fall for. “A Sweet Christmas” is worth checking out!
