The One about the Philhouse restaurant inside an Island Pacific Seafood Market (Fresno, California)

For Filipinos, for many of us who are fortunate to have a major supermarket, know these locations are great places to get food. Not only do they offer wonderful prices but they also offer a large selection of food.

And while the Bay Area and Los Angeles, are among the places to find these big supermarkets, Fresno, also has its own, that many people may not know about it.

It’s Island Pacific Seafood Market, which is a Filipino supermarket chain headquartered in Walnut, California and specializes in selling fresh seafood, meat, produce and grocery products.

Currently the company has 15 stores in California and Nevada (with the bulk majority in California) and inside these locations are eateries known as Philhouse.

And I have been introducing non-Filipino friends to the Philhouse at the Fresno location because of its large variety of food that is offered and its something they can try something other than lumpia, pancit and steamed rice.

And while I know that Jollibee’s gets a lot of attention because it’s a Filipino fastfood chain, I ask people to try the food at their local Filipino Supermarket, especially if you have an Island Pacific Seafood Market nearby.

Now, before anyone asks what I like to eat, please bare in mind that I was a picky eater growing up and I do not eat much pork (aside from bacon and ham) because I witnessed how dinuguan was made (let’s just say I was taken to a pig farm, and witnessed where the sauce came from as a child).

So, when it comes to pork dishes, I’m the last person to ask.

But I will give a thumbs up to the stuffed fish and squid (the squid is huge!!!). I also recommend various dishes like ukoy, which is shrimp and vegetables and sinigang. But what they sell changes each day and also something is served differently from breakfast and lunch and possibly dinner as well. So, dishes do change throughout the day.

But overall, I highly recommend Philhouse restaurants inside a Island Pacific Seafood Market!
