For those going to the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima, you will definitely want to check out the Fountain of Prayer (Inori no Izumi) right in front of the building.
The Fountain of Peace was constructed by Hiroshima Bank and donated to Hiroshima City in 1964.
In the oval-shaped pond, spanning 27 meters (88.5 feet) east to west and 19 meters (62 feet) south to north, a smaller two-layer pond can be seen.
Named “Fountain of Prayer”, the fountain is dedicated to the souls of the victims who died crying, “Water… give me some water!” after the atomic bomb was detonated above the city.
Access to the area is free to the public.
