When it comes to #coffee, and if you are a hardcore #coffeelover, nothing beats #Gesha (Geisha). Granted, it is the most expensive coffee in the world.
Gesha gained popularity in 2004 when it was entered in the “Best of Panama” coffee competition and was sold for $21 per pound. In 2019, it was sold for $1029 per pound (unroasted). Currently, Elida Natural Geisha 1029 is the most expensive coffee in the world at $100 for 18 grams, $100 a cup or $2522 per round roasted. At an auction, 100 pounds of Elida Natural Geisha sold for $102,900.
My first foray into Gesha was Gesha Village Lot 51 Gesha Coffee bean from #Ethiopia courtesy of Tokyo-based master barista Kunitomo Eiichi (owner of Koffee Mameya and Toranomon Koffee), which I tried back in 2016 and was naturally hooked.
The thing is with Gesha, you’ll want to get it once its available, because it will sell out quickly.
Dragonfly Coffee Roasters, based in Boulder, Colorado, sells the Panama Geisha: Elida Estate Green Tip 8 oz. for $175. (Coffee from the Lamastus family at Elida Estate is hands down one of the best in the world).
Another favorite of mine is the 2018 Hawaii Grand Champion, 100% #Kona Geisha produced by the Stille family at the Monarch estate in Holualoa. It’s often sold out from Monarch Estate or Big Island Coffee Roasters.
Yes, Gesha is a bit expensive, but for those who want to try it. I know that Kirkland Signature through Costco (maybe online only?) has sold their own #Panama Geisha Coffee 2 lbs. for $42.99 which is the cheapest you’ll find anywhere and it’s extremely limited to only 2,000 bags produced. I have not tried their Gesha but I know others who have and enjoy it.
I have personally shared Gesha coffee beans with friends who are coffee lovers, granted, I’m more of a coffee connoisseur than most people, as I see coffee in a similar way as wine and appreciate trying coffee from all over the globe.
