I have written about how Halloween has been huge in Japan and how Japan has taken a concept of typically a one day event in which children and families go door to door or shops to dress up and get candy.
In Japan, the concept has grown to now full-blown parades in which parents and children (and even dogs) dress up and also has become one of the largest cosplay gathering (in Ikebukuro) and this happens on the weekend leading to Halloween and of course, Halloween hot spots such as Shibuya Scramble in Shibuya and Dotonbori in Osaka.
But with Covid-19, news and local governments have tried to dissuade people from gathering for Halloween in 2020.
But did many people heed the warnings?
In Tokyo at Shibuya Scramble, While there are people who came out in costume, many wore their mask and while a thousand or so people turned out, not the usual thousands, which is good news.
One cosplayer from Chiba who attended Halloween in Shibuya said she wanted to take pictures but she wore a mask and brought disinfectant solution saying she wanted to have fun, but also being careful due to coronavirus measures.
In addition, Shibuya promoted Virtual Shibuya for Halloween via the app, Cluster.
Meanwhile, at Dotonbori in Osaka,it was extremely crowded…
