The FREESEA Aquarium Hang On Back Power Filter is an inexpensive filter at under $20 and I do recommend it for open top aquariums. Otherwise, for those that have a store-bought aquarium that utilizes their own filters, unfortunately, because of the size difference, your hood is not going to close properly.
So, for those who have an open top tank and are needing a filter, this is an easy to assemble filter that has two cartridges featuring internal sponge optimizes colonization of beneficial anaerobic bacteria and polyfiber floss cartridge traps floating particulate matter. Also, eliminating toxic ammonia and nitrite on contact.
There are some black pellet activated carbon (which helps reduce odors) that comes out of the holes of the filter, so if you have white carpeting or have something light colored nearby, please be aware of this.
For the most part, the filter works great although I found it to really be powerful in terms of the water release compared to my other filters.
The company gives a 24 month warranty and also a filter replacement if there are issues and they offer 24 hour after-sales service which is a plus.
But for the most part, this filter does work, it did help clear my tank and it worked as expected.
As a backup filter, the FREESEA Aquarium Hang On Back Power Filter is recommended!
