The One about the HIC Moho Tani Boardshort

It began back in 1971 when Stephen and Jimmy Tsukayama founded Hawaiian Island Creations, a small surf shop in Kailua on Oahu’s Windward shore.

For me growing up, Hawaiian Island Creations was no doubt one of the coolest brands and the company is known for sponsoring the HICPRO Sunset Beach, the official qualifier for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

The company still remains strong may it come to surfboards and also to get cool deals on surf apparel, especially for HIC surf apparel.

The retail chain now has 14 stores across three islands and I absolutely dig HIC!

For today’s review, I am reviewing their own HIC Moho Tani Boardshorts.

I absolutely wanted these boardshorts because for a Hawaiian short, it’s different in terms it has the Polynesian tribal motif, flowers, but it’s a cool art and not super flowery (I own a lot of flowery surf board shorts, but you just have to love the aqua blue, black and white on these shorts).

The shorts are made of 90% polyester and 10% spandex, so there is an HIC 8-way octo-stretch.  For me, shorts need to stretch, may it be surfing, out hanging out or bending over, last thing you want is your shorts ripping on you.  And at 90% polyester, for those worry about shrinkage, it’s not cotton, so these shorts will keep its form.  And these shorts are definitely made to fit.

So, if you are a size 33, get the 34.  If you are 35/36, get the size 36.

The shorts feature a self tie, two button (four HIC grommets enclosure) each side tie up front  and no, there is no velcro on the lycra fly.  In fact, you have a cover, so no worries of anything down there showing.

The outseam is 19″, so it’s standard size, right above the knees.

The boardshorts comes with a zip enclosure to the right hip, this is the only pocket on these boardshorts.

You have the HIC round logo on the top rear center, and the front left bottom, the “Enjoy the Ride” underneat the lone pocket. and right by the  two right grommets, there is a small rubber HIC circular logo as well.  While on the upper left is the HIC embossed logo.

The shorts als offer durable water repellent (DWR) fabric coating and inside a lycra front rise taping and triple needle construction stitching which is pretty awesome.

For the most part, I absolutely dig these shorts.

Received them quickly and they are a comfortable and look absolutely awesome!

The HIC Moho Tani Boardshort gets five stars!
