The One about homeys American Dining in Takadanobaba

In Japan, there is a burger shop that brings the American dining concept to the Takadanobaba neighborhood of Shinjuku.

And it’s known as homeys American Dining.

Voted for Tabelog’s 100 restaurants for three consecutive years (2017-2019) for their burgers, needless to say the location has become popular.  It’s also the only burger restaurant in which you can order three types of buns: rye (dark brown due to “cacao powder”), chili (red due to “paprika and tomato powder”) and plain (normal brown bun).

So, I decided that I had to give homeys American Dining a try!

The good news is that the burger shop is located just a few minutes from Takadanobaba Station.

I noticed the wooden tables and the Coca Cola in the bottles, as well as the liquor available and manga/magazines for people to read while waiting for their food.

I also notice the red and yellow squeeze bottles (for ketchup and mustard), which reminded me of diners (and grade school cafeteria) in California.

The restaurant was clean and for the most part, customer service was responsive.

Now it was time to order… It’s one thing to see many different versions of their burger, but they also have side dishes, hot dogs and shakes and the menu definitely had that American diner feel, which I’m sure is popular with the expats in the area.

Although I tend to order the avocado burger from burger shops, I have not tried a mushroom burger in Japan (well, I’ve tried a portabello mushroom burger at Shake Shack Japan, which was a huge, fried mushroom, but I mean mushroom burger in the sense of what one experiences in the USA).

I didn’t notice any mention of the different buns on the menu, but not sure if the chili or rye bun was only on their dinner menu?  So, I just ordered the lunch set which consisted of a mushroom burger, drink, fries and pickle, which cost Y1300.  And so far, that’s one of the cheapest prices for a burger shop that I have seen in Tokyo for all four included or in general.

So, that was pretty awesome!

The burger didn’t take long in terms of wait time, so I was happy about that!

The burger looks absolutely juicy!  So, now to grab the wax paper (on the table) to hold the burger and enjoy the burger and fries!

And the burger was absolutely delicious.

For the taste, the price and a cool place to enjoy burger, hot dogs and more… homeys American Dining in Takadanobaba in Shinjuku is definitely recommended!
