The One about Deus Ex Machina in Harajuku Part 2: Basement, level 1.5, Radeus and more!

The One about Deus Ex Machina Part 1: Deus Cafe

On December 1, 2017, Deus Ex Machina Harajuku, “The Residence of Impermanence” had a Super Limited Edition Radeus Collection Launch which featured artist Stevie Gee.

According to Deus Ex Machina:

The underlying concept for Stevie’s RADEUS capsule collection is the vintage skateboard graphics that he was obsessed with and endlessly inspired by in his youth. Stevie’s distinctive psychedelic slacker goofball style, has created award winning design and illustration work extensively for the music, fashion and art world for the past 15 years.  Creating for the likes of Paul Smith, Patagonia, Lacoste, Beams and Vans. Just this year he collaborated wth Vans designing a soon to be released custom shoe as well as working with the worlds best footballers to create a series of animations for Adidas ‘Here to Create’ campaign. The highlight of his year was designing packaging for Stella McCartney and creating a series of 10 animations for her “STELLAWEEN” campaign.Stevie has exhibited his personal artwork worldwide including New York, Sydney, Berlin, Paris, London, Bali, Milan and Tokyo.

The event was well-attended and met with Stevie Gee and his family and also Andy from the Venice store.

But let’s get back to the Deus Ex Machina coverage and go through the basement area where the surfboard gallery and Deus bar is located.

The area was where the part was held the night several hours before but Stevie’s Radeus shirts were hung all over the walls.  One could see the surfboards, snowboards, skateboards, etc

And while there were areas for one to chill, you can see the shaping bay for surfboards.

Deus Ex Machina had the following on the basement area:

A lot of moving parts are packed into a the skin of the building – a full service surfboard shaping bay in the basement plays host to touring shaper like Thomas Bexton under the watch of resident shaper Takuya ‘Tappy’ Yoshikawa.

The basement also contains the generous gallery space which was launched by the LAND boys.

The 1.5th floor above the cafe is where the restrooms are located but also another part of the cafe area and the bike garage.

In the next post for part three, I will showcase the top floor, The Deus Harajuku Retail Shop.
